RAIN LOTTERY UPSETS 2's
Hythe 2nd XI's promotion push was dented by the wet weather reduction system - making the game a lottery. Hythe batted first 179 for 8 but an hours rain set BAe 112 to win off 21 overs.

TOSS VITAL IN 2nd XI DEFEAT

 Fonzy 2010
Richard LAST 42*

Every year at the Hampshire League AGM the Suggestions For Rain Effected Hames Comes Up - But an Ideal Solution Has Never Been Found. On Saturday 95% of The Games Played - The Team Batting 2nd Won - Hythe Lost The Toss & Batted First

With skipper Mike Bowman resting his ankle - Si Dixon took over the captaincy against bottom of the table BAe. The toss was vital on a damp wicket so I guess Dixie shouldn't have gone out to toss - such is his record with the coin. Hythe lose the toss and batted first.

Things got worse for Dixie as he got a ball that jumped up and would have got out 9 out of 10 batsman - Hythe 5 for 1. James Page joined Tongs lasted 8 overs before being run out for 7. Three runs later the Guru was caught off Hadley for 15 - Hythe 31 for 3 off 3. Mills was then caught off Owen for 2 - Green Caps in trouble at 36 for 4 off 15.

Rain then fel for 65 minutes which meant the handbooks were out ready for Hampshire's cackhanded version of Duckworth Lewis. Hythe had moved onto 58 for 4 before a 86 run partnership between Tom Porter and Zac Millar steadied the ship. Porter brought up his fifty with a boundary but was out 2 balls later - caught off Kudami for 51. Hythe 122 for 5 off 35. Millar and Last added another 34 for the 6th wicket before Millar was bowled by Young for a very good 44. Last carried on the hard hitting - 6x4's and a six in 42 not out as Hythe ended on 179 for 8.

After some deliberation it was announced that BAe would require 112 off 21 overs to win the game with bowlers bowling a maximum of 5 overs. Out in the middle as the Hythe players were soon to find out - the rain instead of helping the bowlers appeared to actually make it easier for batting. Hythe opened up with Moore and Last and after tighet 6 overs 10 for 0 Dixie made a double change. Prentice and White joined the attack much to the pleasure of the BAe battsman - The next 7 overs going for 56 runs. White did however remove Hadley caught by James Page for 20.

65 now needed off 8 overs Dixie turned to Stovell. A six and a wide was followed by a wicket - Young bowled by Stovell for 11. Moore returned to pick up a wicket thanks to a stunning catch from Dixon - Woodward out for 1. BAe 74 for 3. Stovell then went for 12 in the next over as Owen opened up. 90 for 3 off 16. Moore then had Murphy L.B.W for 40 - 91 for 4. Moore finishing 2-17 off 5. Mills replaced Stovell and probably wished he hadn't as 14 came off his first over inc 2x6's. The home side almost home at 110 for 4. Last delayed proceedings bowling a great wicket maiden but two singles off the first two balls of the next over saw BAe home. Disappointment for Hythe in their promotion chase.
