REDLYNCH & HALE DEFEAT UNDER 17'S MAKESHIFT SIDE.

Harry SMITH - 43

The clash with School/College cricket matches and other commitments saw the necessity for a much changed under 17’s team. Hythe welcomed back several players who had not played this season and additionally Rob Thomas on debut.

Matt Young won the toss and decided to bat. Elliot Carley and Harry Smith opened the batting but Elliot was unluckily run out by a direct throw with the score on 13. Todd Powell elevated to the position of number 3 joined Harry and they took the score to 47 (12^th over) before Todd was bowled by Vincent for a decent 11. Tom Smith hit a nice shot for 2 but he too was bowled, this time by Bishop. Matt Young joined Harry and the two of them took the score to 82. Harry was run out with 4 balls to go for a very good 43 and Matt followed next ball trying to hit the ball out of the ground. Hythe finished their 18 overs on 84. Redlynch & Hale’s fielding was very good.

In reply, Redlynch & Hale opened with Burbeck and Harding who added 40 for the first (and last wicket), Alex Nicholas bowling Burbeck for 19. Meanwhile, Hythe continued to press Redlynch but some sloppy fielding at times gave away too many easy runs. Redlynch eventually got home in the 15^th over. Hythe’s bowling was generally good and we could have had a couple more wickets. On paper Hythe were well beaten but in reality the game was a lot closer. Improvements in basic fielding would help the team a great deal.
