HYTHE UNDER 13's vs PYLEWELL PARK
23rd June @ Jones Lane
Kelly Saves Hythe's Blushes.
 |
| Sam Kelly 29 |
Hythe's second game in 2 days showed as the Green Caps made hard work of a game they should have won with ease. After Hythe reduced the visitors to 57 for 8 the home side faltered themselves to 25 for 4 before a hard hitting performance from Sam Kelly 29 got them out of trouble.
Ali Bryers won the toss again and elected to field first on a damp wicket. Hythe got off to a perfect start when Bryers bowled Tilley without scoring. Fenton then bowled R.Wright for 5 and at 4 overs Pylewell were 6 for 2. By the 8th over they had progressed to 21 for 2 thanks to L.Kolliari and L.Wilkins. Larkin started with several wides but in between the wides gained two wickets. First he bowled Kolliari for 6 and then had skipper J.Wilkins very well caught by Ollie Pike for 5.
Sam Kelly then removed Smith 0 and Yeomans 1 - and when Ladbury came onto remove Fitzsimmonds and Pearson for ducks Pylewell were in all sorts of trouble at 44 for 8. A.Luker 9* and H.Doll 2* then frustrated the Green Caps for the final overs and the visitors finished on 57 for 8.
Coach Hux swapped the batting order sending in Freddie Molyneux to open with Archie Gilbert. Freddie thought it was a 2 overs match and went after the ball from the start but was soon bowled by Wilkins for 1. The impressive Wilkins then had Ali Bryers judged LBW for 5 and after 4 overs Hythe were 15 for 2. Jacob Mould was then bowled by Wilkins for 1 and Simpson got his reward for some tight bowling by bowling Gilbert for 7 - even though Archie said it bounced 4 times to get to him. 8 overs gone Hythe 25 for 4.
Sam Kelly decided the best way to defend was attack and took a liking to the new bowlers Wright and Yeomans smashing 5x4's in the process. Ben Fenton was then caught for 1 and with just 6 required Kelly was bowled by Wright for 29. Jake Larkin was then bowled by Yeomans for 1 leaving the scores tied when Pike came to the crease as 10th man. First ball the cocky Pylewell wicket keper tried a stumping missed and the ball went away for a single - Hythe win by 2 wkts and finally get their 2nd league win of the season.
