After 4 cancellations Hythe finally got to meet Totton & Eling (from the Northern Section) in the Quarter-Finals of the Forest Cup.
A close game was predicted with Hythe struggling in the league and T&E mid table - and thats how the game turned out.
T&E batted first with the overhead conditions favouring the bowlers. Bryers and Fenton started well for Hythe with the ball with Bryers bowling Darney for 0 and Fenton grabbing the wicket of Holmes for 6. T&E 17 for 2 after 4. The T&E skipper Edmonson was the big scalp Hythe needed early and Fenton obliged bowling him for 9.
8 overs T&E 27 for 3. A double change saw Sam Kelly and Pieter Lever into the attack but both struggled first over with the swinging conditions. After 4 wides and a couple double bounces - Lever did get one on target to bowl Holland for 8. Kelly typically blamed the fielders for over polishing the ball and that it was swinging too much for him. But he got his head together by switching to around the wicket - and had immeadiate success by having Cummins caught behind by Gilbert for 1.
T&E 47 for 4 off 12. Kelly bowled Prousy for 0 and Larkin run out Mills for 0 - Hythe on top with the fielders doing an excellent job. Larkin got in on the act by bowling Dunham for 2. Woodcock looked dangerous as he smashed Pike's first 2 balls (once they came out fo the clouds) for 4's. But Pikey got his own back by having him caught and bowled for 13 and next ball bowled Taylor with a beauty for 0. T&E all out for 62.
Coach Huxley told his toops that 62 sounded easy but conditions favoured the bowler. With that Archie Gilbert and Ollie Pike opened the batting. Unfortunately three balls later Pikey was walking back for a drink - bowled by Edmonson playing no shot 0. Bryers joined Gilbert but then got a peach from Edmonson - bowled for 4 and Hythe 13 for 2. Jacob Mould came in at 4 - looking shaky at first but then hit the shot of the day off Edmonson for 4 off his legs.
Gilbert played the anchor innings but had a run out shout just go his way. The Green Caps were 30 for 2 at 8 overs and Gilbert and Mould added 30 for the 4th wicket before Gilbert was caught by Mills off Darney for 10. T&E bowlers got on top for a few overs without taking anymore wickets and at the 12 over mark Hythe were 37 for 3. Mould was then bowled by Woodcock for 11 in the 14th over and 2 overs later Molyneux was judges L.B.W for 1. Sam Kelly continued to play his shots but with the winning mark in his sights - skied one to Cummins - out for 11.
Ben Fenton and Jake Larkin though saw Hythe home with 2 overs spare and into the semi- finals where they will play table favourites table toppers Lymington 'A'
