HYTHE UNDER 13's vs LYMINGTON 'A'
13th June @ Jones Lane
Brave Under 13's Take Table Toppers Close.
 | |
| Ali BRYERS 28* | Sam KELLY 25* |
Another good Monday night crowd saw a great game of cricket played in very good spirit with table toppers Lymington coming out on top - just. A bit more belief in the middle overs and the game could have been Hythe's.
Lymington batted first and had to shuffle the pack because of guys arriving late. The opening pair of Marshall and Howard-Allen saw off a fine early spell from Ali Bryers before laying into Hythe's second string attack. Howard -Allen finally went - well caught by Lewie Fay off Bryers 16. Bryers quickly followed it up by having Hills well caught by Sam Kelly at gully. Half way stage Lymington were 46 for 2. Marshall retired on 31* before Fay took the wicket of Ambrose for 14 as Hythe pegged back the onslaught with some very good fielding. At 12 overs Lymington had moved onto 74 and by 15 - 94 with a last surge for runs expected. But Ladbury run out Sykes for 9 and Lymington ended their innings on 111 for 4.
A good fielding display by the Green Caps but to me they used far too many bowlers against quality opposition and Ben Fenton was under used.
Hythe's batting opened with Archie Gilbert and Ollie Pike. It wasn't long before Hythe lost their first wicket when Pike was caught for 3. Skipper Bryers and Archie Gilbert then added 20 before Gilbert was bowled by McGregor for 16. Half way stage the Green Caps were at 42. Lymington messed around with their bowling as if the game was already over - Hythe's middle order crumbled losing 4 quick wickets but then Bryers and Sam Kelly came together in the 12th over with the score on 56. The pair added an unbeaten 45 runs injust 6 overs to take Hythe within 12 runs of the target. Bryers ending 28* and Sam Kelly 25*.
By the final overs Lymington were slightly concerned and brought on their main bowlers but Bryers and Mead just used the pace off the bat to their benefit.
Lymington win by 11 runs - Hythe did very well - and a great advert for Under 13's cricket.
