O.T's & ROMSEY IV's Vs HYTHE 3rd XI

Saturday 11th June

Big Win by Hythe 3's as Shrive, James & Mead Go On Rampage

Nick SHRIVE 105	Kev JAMES 77
159 1st Wkt Partnership

Hythe 3rd XI finally got a win under their belt with an emphatic 185 run win over O.T's & Romsey IV's. Nick Shrive scored a maiden century on his League Debut - well supported by Kev James who made 77 as the pair put on 159 for the 1st wicket in 29 overs. Sam Mead 51 then added 90 with Shrive as Hythe piled up 290 for 4 in their 42 overs.

Jonjo Stovell captained the side in the absence of Tony North. In true Jonjo style - he alone decided to win the toss and bat first much to the disgust of Chiv, Meado and a few others.

New opening pair Kev James and Nick Shrive took to the middle and by 10 overs had moved onto 45 for 0. The young O.T's side then dropped Shrive twice in quick succession but with James the calming influence at the other end, by drinks the score had moved onto 109 for 0. Next over James brought up his fifty and then next over Shrive did the same.

The 150 came up in the 28th over and then Janes was out next over - caught off Newman for a fine 77 which included 13x4's. Sam Mead came in at 3 and Shrivey wasted no time in making him run between the wickets. 200 came up in the 33rd over and then Shrive brought up his ton with a boundary. His 100 included 14x4's. With the onslaught begining the pair added another 49 in 5 overs befoe Shrive was bowled by Eldridge for an excellent 105.

Mead brought up his fifty with a four (inc 7x4's) and he and Stovell added another 41 in the final 4 overs before both fell towards the end of the final over. Hythe 290 for 4 at the close - excellent stuff.

Hythe opened the bowling with the returning Josh Mead and skipper Stovell. In the 4th over Stovell bowled Salter for 3 and two overs later bowled Colling for 17 - O.T's 28 for 2 off 8. Meads 5 over spell ended 0-21 but a good first spell of the season after injury. Super Kev replaced and with dark clouds all around it was important Hythe got to the 21 over stage asap. Stovells spell ended 6 overs 2-18 to be replaced by Chiverton who was hoping he didn't have a repeat performance of 7 days earlier. First over though Service gave the faintest of edges to Kev James and O.T's were 43 for 3 off 14. Super Kev bowled again without much luck but as tidy as ever.

20th over - O.T's 4 down when Newman was well caught by Stovell off Chiverton for 22. 62 for 4 at drinks - soon after 5 down when Chiverton bowled Eldridge for 0. Cook was then bowled by Chiverton for 13 and his 5th wicket came in the 28th over when the impressive James had Reilly caught behind for 7. Ali Bryers replaced Chiverton who finished 8 overs 5-21 and Bryers celebrated the 8th wicket when he had Mitchell-Lee bowled for 5. (New Forest rep getting the better of a Hampshire rep). 94 for 8 off 30.

Gilbert replaced McCarthy who ended 0-26 off 10. With his first ball an excellent catch by Josh Mead gave Archie his first senior wicket. Ali Bryers wrapped things up in the 34th over bowling Melling for 1 - OT's 105 all out

24 points for Hythe and great to see some smiling faces after a difficult month in their new league. Well done to Jonjo impressive as ever as skipper..
