On a drizzly afternoon Cadnam won the toss and elected to bat first. The damp wicket certainly helped the Hythe bowling and the home side were soon struggling at 12 for 3. Stovell got rid of first teamer M.Hardy thanks to a Gareth Mead catch 3, and then Ali Bryers had Patley caught behind for 1 by Matt Young. Stovell next over bowled Wright-Green for a duck.
That brought in Cdnam's main man Peter Elliott who is a main figure in Cadnam's First XI these days. At 31 Cadnam lost their 3rd wicket when James was run out by the Huxter's golden arm for 11. Elliott and Taylor added 35 before the big wicket !!! - Elliott caught by Stovell off the bowling of Jack Knight-0 Owen for 37. Taylor and M.Wright-Green added 49 for the 6th wicket before Bryers returned to get rid of Taylor for 19 thanks to a Huxley catch - 116 for 6 with around 10 overs til tea.
Huxley finished his excellent spell 0-12 off 8 and Wright -Green 54* and Whitehorn 14* added an unbeaten 48 in the final overs. Cadnam 163 for 6 at tea. Well done to the Hythe lads for fielding in difficult circumstances.
Hythe in reply opened with Stovell and skipper Sam Mead. It certainly wasn't the gun ho Stovell we saw on Saturday as just 9 came off the first 4 overs. In the 7th over though Hythe lost Mead - caught by Hardy off Pilton for 6. Zac Millar came to the crease hoping to put aside his first baller the previous day - but in the same over it was Stovell who was trudging back to the pavilion - caught by Elliott off Pilton for 20.Hythe 29 for 2.
By drinks Hythe had moved onto 57 for 2 - needing another 107 off the final 20 overs to pull off the win. Millar and Young were begining to play their shots - Young hitting one massive six but at 63 Elliott had Young caught behind for 21. The Guru joined Millar looking for some form himself. 15 overs to go Hythe moved onto 86 for 3. Cadnam frequently changed their bowlers hoping to earn some luck. Even Hythe managed to see out Cadnam Legend Ron Biddlecombe's overs without loss - the Green Caps were 109 for 3 with both batsman now well in.
16 wides didn't help the home sides cause and by the 30th over and with still 5 to go - Hythe had won with Tongs and Millar sharing an unbeaten 101 partnership. Millar ended 49* inc 7x4's and Tongs 37 inc 5x4's. Great win.
More importantly the Hythe lads said the game was competative but played in a good sporting spirit - Just like Tony would have wanted.
