| Richie FROGGETT 52* & 3-58 |
On a very hot Saturday afternoon, Hythe captain Matt Howe lost his first toss of the season which saw the visitors choose to bat. This time, Hythe’s openers began well with wickets in the fourth and fifth overs. Russell Moore struck first dismissing Buckingham for 11 after he was caught by Harry Smith while Richard Froggett bowled Hall for 10.
However, this brought McNally (74) and Allnutt (59) to the crease and they shared a 146 run partnership as the hosts struggled in the heat. Eventually Froggett returned to remove McNally and also pick up a third wicket for figures of 3-58 while Mike Edwards bowled Allnutt to leave Hook on 207-5. In the end Garner (36*) and Lye (18*) took the visitors to 248 – a score which both sides were content with in the conditions.
In reply, Hythe began with their best opening partnership of the campaign as Rob James and Matt Young put on 42 before James was caught for 21. But, just like last week, a collapse set in with Howe, Edwards, Richards, Smith and Bell contributing a mere six runs between them as the Green caps sank to 95-6.
Young (42 inc. 6x4’s) was then joined by Froggett (52* inc. 10x4’s) who brought respectability back to the scorecard with a 52 run partnership, despite the game slowly slipping away from the hosts. Hythe eventually finished on 200 all out with an enterprising 11 from Rob Saunders providing the Green Caps with an extra batting point which could prove crucial at the end of the season.
For Hook, Lye finished with 4-39, while Parmar took 3-31 and Peart 3-29 although they did contribute a mighty 61 extras including 34 wides to the Hythe total.
