HYTHE SUNDAY XI vs MERLIN

Sunday 4th June

The Wizzards of Merlin Win Twenty20

The Fonz 69

Damp conditions meant that Hythe's match with Merlin was reduced to a Twenty20 game. The Visitors pulled off a last over win to record their first at Jones Lane since 1993.

Hythe's mixed bag of results continued with a 3 wicket defeat at the hands of Merlin yesteday. The Green Caps batted first and thanks to a healthy 69 from 'The Fonz' Richard Last and 40 from Tom Richards - Hythe were able to post a challenging 158 for 6 off their 20 overs. Chalky White continued his emergence with the bat scoring 15.

With the game seemingly in the bag the Colonel decided to give everyone a bowl. The dangerous Kolli was out LBW to young Tom Knight-Owen for 8 though Woodsys finger went up for his young colt before the keeper had even shouted. Two more wickets fell quickly as Knight-Owen struck again - havin Bristow caught by Moore for 0. Then a big wicket Parsons bowled by Moore for 22. - Merlin 39 for 3 off 5.

Barnsdall and Mutiti added 42 for the 4th wicket before Mutiti was bowled by Moore for 2. 81 for 4 became 97 for 6 as Bellt rolled back the years to bowl Barnsdell for 16 and Harvey for 22. Merlin 97 for 6 off 13. Horne and skipper J.Adams then produced a match winning partnership of 57 in 7 overs to take the visitors to the brink of victory. When Adams was finally out for 29 (caught behind off Moore) the visitors needed just 5 to win.

Horne finished 41 not out and the Hythe lads thinking - how the hell did we lose this game. But a good shortened game played in very good spirit.
