Calmore Too Strong For Hythe
![]() |
| Tony NORTH 32 |
Another tough encounter for Hythe 3rd XI in their new league as they came up against Calmore III's at Calmore Rec. The home side batted first scoring 240 for 9 and in reply the Green Caps scored 160 all out. One bonus for Hythe - 6 good overs of spin fron Jack Kight-Owen for just 25.
A big surprise at the ground was to see Hythe Legend Brian Buck umpring for Calmore. Brian made 7 centuries for Hythe back in the 70-80's - boy could we have done with one of them in this game.
Tony North lost the toss as Hythe batted first on a ugly looking pitch at Calmore Rec. After 4 steady overs Calmore got a move on and by 9 overs had reached 45 for 0. McCarthy then picked up the wicket of Galbrath thanks to a Sam Mead catch for 18. Chiverton replaced Stovell but had a mare of a day as his first two overs went for 20. Prentice started in the same vain with 12 coming off his first over and Northy's face painted the picture.
At the 15 over stage Calmore had moved onto 94 for 1 but Hythe fought back with two quick wickets - Prentice bowled Hardy for 52 and then Tull was caught by Stovell off Knight-Owen for 20. 117-3 off 20. Rose and Hill then added 36 in 6 overs before Zac Millar took a very good catch to dismiss Hill off Prentice for 18. Hythe claimed two more quick wickets to have Calmore 166 for 6 but the runs kept on coming and Calmore finished 240 for 9. Ian Prentice finishing with 3-47.
Hythe got off to a cracking start through Jonjo Stovell who decided to try and win the game on his own - 20 coming off the first 2 overs. But the loose canon treid one too many big hits and was caught for 20 in only the 3rd over. Zac Millar went first ball faced and Hythe were 26 for 2. Kev James looked in good form til one came up on him and he was caught behind for 14.
Birthday Boy Sam Mead and Tony North steadied the ship and added 58 in 10 overs before Mead was bowled by Kinchington for 23. The Huxter smashed a big six before he was caught off the same bowler for 9. North top scored with 32 and Garth Mead made a good 27 but Hythe were well beaten and finished 160 all out in the 31st over.
