HYTHE UNDER 17's @ DAMERHAM
Thursday 2nd June 2011
UNDER 17'S DESERVE THEIR FIRST WIN
Hythe's long trip across the forest on paper was going to be a close affair
- this proved the case as the Green Caps come away with an exceiting win by 16 runs.

| Harry SMITH - Retired 53* |
Matt Young lost the toss for the first time this season and to his surprise Damerham asked Hythe & Dibden to bat. Matt Young and Harry Smith opened the batting and they put on 28 before Matt was caught on the boundary. Keiran Chalmers joined Harry and both proceeded to score at a good rate despite the slowness of the pitch. Harry eventually retired at 53 (6x4’s) and Keiran finished up on 46 not out(7x4’s). H & D completed their 18 overs on a score of 129 – 1. The score was kept to a manageable level by some keen Damerham fielding and bowling.
Damerham’s reply was going well until Keiran Chalmers took a sharp catch off Todd Powell to dismiss Bealey. Score 29 -1. Nick Shrive entered the fray
and with his third ball caught and bowled Baselman for 1. After that Damerham fought back and took their score to 81 – 2. The initative was reclaimed by H & D when the agile Alex Nicholas got his finger tips to a drive by Lake and as a consequence deflected the ball on to the bowlers end stumps for a run out. A minor collapse then took place with a number of wickets falling in the 80’s. Jack Knight Owen bowled his slow off breaks and accounted for the dangerous Lake (An excellent catch from Harry Smith). Meanwhile, Chris Griffin was bowling for the first time this season and took 4 wickets for 16 (3 catches by Matt Young). Damerham finally ran out of overs and had lost 9 wickets in reaching 113. H & D won by 16 runs.
This was a fine team effort. As in previous games, the Under 15’s in the side, gave excellent performances.
A special thanks to the parents who made the journey to Damerham (approx 50 miles round trip). This was appreciated.
