Result of the week for Hythe & Dibden Cricket Club has to be the game of the day in New Forest Youth Cricket - Hythe Under 15's last ball win over table toppers and undefeated New Milton 'A'. With six required off the final ball Alex Nicholas stepped up to smash the ball into the trees - great result.

On a blowy morning at Jones Lane - New Milton 'A' batted first and were kept in check as the Hythe bowlers bowled a very tight line which created pressure and then early wickets fell. Chalmers had Nicholls caught by Knight-Owen for 2 whilst Hussey was bowled by Jones for 1 and Edwards caught by Long off Chalmers for 6.

G.Watts and W.Crossley started the fight back - Crossley hit a fine 28 before being bowled by Nicholas. Elliott Carley then picked up two late wickets but Watts remained steady and his 27* plus 20 extras took the final New Milton score to 107 for 6. Hythe's bowling impressive with Chalmers 2-9 off 4 the best.

Hythe's reply stumbled when Blandford went early but Richard Jones and Kieran Chalmers 17 put Hythe in the driving seat. The Green Caps as usual then stumbled New Milton hitting back with 4 quick wickets. Jones retired on a very good 42* . Things the went down to the final over and that last ball which the locals will remember for quite a while. Alex Nicholas hitting a six into the trees for a famous win.

With Coach Froggie to over come with pride - it was down to JC to give his feedback on the famous victory

  • Keeping the bowling very tight early on, we created pressure and then took early key wickets.
  • The entire team's fantastic fielding display with Only 10 players!
  • Thanks to Nathan from coming out of retirement at the age of 15 otherwise we would only have had 9 players and would have missed his solid fielding and good arm that he has.
  • In particular some of the backing up was superb (JKO setting the standard in being alert on that score!)
  • James Bidwell for another excellent performance as stand in wicket keeper even though everything is done one handed ;-)
  • Some great boundary hitting by Richard Jones and well supported along the way.

Despite a great platform Hythe wobbled towards the end and needed 7 from the last over to win - 5 balls later only one run had been added so 6 runs still left to get and just one delivery to go!! That had come after a run out left 2 batsmen at one end deciding who would walk - Elliot Carley fell on his own sword and took one for the team - one ball remaining, six runs required for a win and facing only his 2nd delivery of the match Alex Nicholas in the NEW, TRUE, HYTHE and DIBDEN WAY casually launched it straight into the trees for 6 and the win and jubilation all round for a result that was of course......never in doubt!! No bitten finger nails round our clubhouse...Honest!   Mike Bowman happily eating his words after Pagey said before the last ball how Hythe had been in the driving seat a few overs ago "It's the Hythe and Dibden way!" bemoaned Mr Bowman .......Not Anymore its not!!   Beating one of the top teams with Only 10 players and two of our front line players missing. I thought it was truly an all round team effort where ALL 10 contributed to the win...

Lots of great moments on the day but two were extra special....   JKOs Catch! THE six!

A special mention to Billy who is always willing to turn out for the Under 15s from the Under 13s.... hopefully news of the team's win will help him on his first steps to recovery from his badly broken arm that he sustained the day before the game.
