HYTHE 3rd XI vs LYMINGTON 3rd XI

Saturday 28th May

NO SURPRISES FOR THE 3rds

Tom HUXLEY

3 Catches & 1 Run Out

Hythe 3rd XI put in a brave performance in the field to reduce a strong Lymington 3rds to 225 for 8. Again Hythe's batting let them dowm - 123 all out - Sam Long top scoring with 23.

Hythe entertained table topping Lymington 3rds on Saturday who averaged 266 for their 3 innings so far. With Hythe struggling to field 11 they asked Matt Youngs grandad to help out. Skipper for the day Jonjo Stovell won the toss and put the title favourites into bat. Stovell called upon himself to open the bowling and removed D.Griffiths 1 and A.Drodge 1 with only 18 on the board - (Two good catches from Sam Mead and Tom Huxley). By 16 overs Lymington had moved onto 51 for 2 when Stovell 2-16 off 8 took himself off to be replaced by Sam Long. Unfortunately for Sam things didn't go well and his 2 overs went for 27 inc 8 wides. Chiverton replaced Long and immeadiately struck when Tom Huxley held an excellent catch at deep backward square to remove Gannoway for 32. 2 overs later Chiverton struck again this time thanks to Alex Nicholas who did well to hold a catch at square from Peter Tapper who made 55 inc 7x4's & 2x6's. Lymington 105 for 4 off 23.

L & H Ambrose then added 60 for the 5th wicket when Nicholas bowled H.Ambrose with one of his specials that never gets up for 23. LHuxley helped Chiverton get L.Ambrose for 33 but not until he'd hit him for 18 off the same over. Tom Huxley run out di Maria for 0 and when Nicholas bowled Treagus for 1 Lymo were 178 for 8. Skipper Hunt and J.Bowring added an unbeaten 47 late on to close at 225 for 8. Well done to the Hythe for keeping going and Stovell deserves credit for his captaincy in the field.

After an excellent tea - Hythe got off to a steady start - 23 off 8 before Stovell was caught off Treagus for 14. Chris Noble then showed his experience by removing Huxley 6 and Kev James 14 - Hythe 39 for 3 in the 13th over. Sam and Gareth Mead then took Hythe past the 2 batting points mark (75) before Garth was caught off L.Ambrose for 17. Jordan Blandford didn't trouble the scorers and when Sam Mead went for 22 at 80 for 6 the Green Caps looked like they would struggle to get a 100. But Sam Long 23 had other ideas and with the tail hanging around they managed to reach 123 all out off 40.1 overs.

102 run defeat for the Green Caps but a lot of positives to take out of a game against a side who will be up there come the end of the season. Tom Huxleys excellent fielding display, Sam Mead did very well behind the stumps, great catch from Alex Nicholas to remove Tapper and Pete Stannett who came in last minute and stopped everything that came to him. The win will come.
