More Batting Woes For 3rds

Jonjo STOVELL
36 & 2-25

Hythe 3rd XI fell to their 2nd defeat in two games as they were resoundly beaten by Milford on Sea on an unprepared wicket at Barnes Lane. Hythe did well to reduce the seasiders to 189 all out but again the vatting let them down - all out for just 100.

Hythe arrived to find a unprepared grassy wicket with the homeside lads as critical of the wicket as Hythe's. Northy made it 3 from three with the toss and elected to field first.

Stovell and McCarthy opened up for Hythe and drew first blood in only the 3rd over when Stovell bowled Burns for 6. Both bowlers then had the Milford batting under pressure, swinging and missing but the 2nd wicket stood firm til the 13th over when Stovell had Rogers LBW for 11. - Milford 45 for 2 off 13.

Chiverton replaced McCarthy after a 6 over spell and first over had Brown caught LBW on the back foot for 17. Chiv then bowled ex Clayhill Hannam for 13 and at drinks Milford were 84 for 4. With a chance of getting the home side out for a decent target - Hythe then began to drop chances. The score moved onto 110 before two more wickets fell in quick succession. Chiv caught & bd Ferrar for 12 and then Huxley bowled Bockart for 25. Hythe were then frustrated by a 7th wicket partnership of 72 before McCarthy retunred to bowl Brown for 32. North then stumped Torah off Huxley for 33 and then the same pair dismissed F.Short for 0. Super Mac finished things off bowling Adkin and Milford were all out for 189 in the last over. Hythe collecting 5 valuable bowling points.

Hythe needed a good start from Stovell and Kev James but with the pitch unpredictable - after two balls along the ground James was out to one that lifted sharply onto his glove and into the wicket keepers hands. Stovell and Sam Mead then added 39 for the 2nd wicket when Mead was bowled by Ferrar for 10. Hythe's batting then crumbeld with only Tom Huxley 10 getting into double figures. Hythe passed the 100 mark thanks to Ali Briers who showed a lot of maturity with the bat. 13 year old Archie Gilbert had a good league debut.
