UNDER 17'S HELP SERVE UP A CRACKER IN THE SUNSHINE

Hythe Under 17's left the pitch a disappointed bunch after losing to a strong Wellow outfit by 9 wickets after setting them 141 to win. Yet they played their part in a cracking game at Lower Common Road and were in with a shout right upto the final two overs.

Harry Smith & Nick Shrive shared an unbeaten 90 run opening partnership before Smith retired 50 not out. Shrive made 43.

Hythe arrived at Wellow to be greeted by a side made up of 7 New Forest players and one Hampshire. Matt Young won the toss and elected to bat first. Harry Smith and Nick Shrive opened the innings and soon got on top of the Wellow bowlers. 28 came off the first 5 overs and by the half way mark - Hythe had reached 53 for 0. Wellow's confidence of an easy win at the begining was begining to evaporate. Shrive was playing his part with 7x4's in his first 10 scoring shots. Hythe needed to up the pace and Smith smashed Hampshire player King out of the ground. That brought up his fifty which brought Zac Millar to the crease.

Millar smashed King for 4 before Bass had him caught for 5. Shrive was then bowled for 43 as Hythe threw the bat for late runs. Matt Young hit 2x4's in a quick fire 15 before being caught on the boundary on the final ball. - Hythe 140 for 3 off 18 overs.

Hythe took to the field with 12 players which meant rotation of fielders every 3 overs. Chalmers and Nicholas opened the bowling and 26 came off the first 5 overs largely due to Nicholas struggling to find his line. At the half way stage Wellow had reached 66 for 0 - slightly ahead of where Hythe were. The turning point came when 2 overs from First Teamer Harry Smith went for 26, Youngs 2 overs went for 19 resulting in Wellow needing 20 off 4. J.Kennedy retired 50 not out and at 124 Wellow lost their only wicket when Bryce caught Sampson off Chalmers for 3.

Wellow reached their target with 10 balls remaining - Field finishing 45 not out. 36 extras didn't help the Hythe cause but a good performance fron the Green Caps.
