Monday 2nd May
Strong Hythe Side Well Beaten By The Farmers

A strong Hythe XI were well beaten with 12 over's still to go as the Chase Farmers chased down 232 to win. Earlier Hythe elected to bat first scoring 226 for 6 in 45 overs with Matt Howe scoring 60 and Paul Quinnell 42 and Tom Huxley 47 bottling half tons.
No sooner was the Chase boys out of the minibus when Colonal Saunders laid down the law - 45 overs - we have a strong side so we should bat. The Chase lads said they never play 45 overs but at tea when Hythe had only reached 226 they were confident.
The Colonal opened up with Quinney and Sam Long only for Sam to fall in the 3rd over - bowled for 0. Quinney was joined by the Huxter who soon led the partnership. At 10 overs Hythe were at 29 for 1 and an increase in momentum was needed especially with the Club Skipper and ex Club Skipper waiting to come in. At 20 overs Hythe had reached 99 for 1 with Huxter on 42. Tom didn't want to know how many he was on but then probably wished he did when he was bowled for 47. Dixon hit three very good bonudaries before being judged LBW for 13 and then Quinnell fell for 42 in the same over - Hythe 115 for 5.
Matt Howe and Sean Tongs then upped the pace adding 94 in 19 overs for the 5th wicket before Howe was caught for a very good 60 inc 9x4's and a six. Tongs was then run out for 29 and Hythe finished their innings on 226 for 6.
The Green Caps took to the field and the Colonal opened the bowling with Ian Prentice and Alex McMillian (playing his first game at Jones Lane). 54 came off the first 8 overs before the colonal decided a change was needed. Spin came in the form of Tom Richards and in the 11th over Richards bowled Webb for 29. Chase 70 for 1 in 11 overs. Pagey playing for the opposition reached a very fifty inc 9x4's 1x5 and 1x6. Page added 71 in 13 overs with Doug beofre falling to best mate Matt Howe for 53. Chase 135 for 2 in 23.
That was as good as it got for Hythe as Rob Saunders tried no less than 8 bowlers - but Doug 60 not out and Collin 56 not out shared an unbeaten 96 run -3rd wicket partnership to reach their target in just 33 overs.
Thanks to Chase Farmers for the game which was played in very good spirit. Next year well forget Dave Connell pre match words when he said that they have no batsman.
