Stovell On The Charge As Rain Haults Opening League Fixture
 |
| Jonjo STOVELL |
| 38* & 3-60 |
A youthful looking Hythe 3rd XI opening League Fixture was abandoned because of rain 12 overs into the Second Innings. Hythe were chasing 226 to win and were 58 for 1 off 12.2 overs when the heavens opened. Jonjo Stovell capped a good day by taking 3 for 60 and 38 not out.
With four of the side Under 15's - Hythe were put into the field first on an outfield that makes Jones Lane look like the oval. Tony North opened with Kev Mc Carthy and Jonjo Stovell and it was Stovel that took first blood in only the 4th over when he had Hilton caught behind for 4. McCarthy was his misely self sporting a green shirt after forgetting his playing shirt. The second week running super Kevs forgotten something. His figures after 5 overs just 0-8.
Boscombe skipper Mutaza rode his luck with Stovell and flashed 5 x 4's to the boundary. At 51and in the 14th - Stovell got revenge with a double wicket over . First he had Mataza caught behind for 28 and then Sandeep was caught & bowled for 2. Despite the two wickets Northy kept to his word and took Stovell off to bring on 13 year old Alex Nicholas. His first 2 overs went for just 6 runs before the third went for 15 but a good first spell in senior league cricket.
McCarthy as always finished with excellent figures of 0-26 off 10 to be replaced by Chiverton. At drinks (21 overs) Boscombe moved onto 86 for 3. Thirteen year old Ali Bryers replaced Nicholas and claimed a wicket in his second over having Mills caught for 30 by Jonathon O'Brien. Chiverton then had Pearce caught for 5 by the diving McCarthy and Boscombe were 105 for 5. Zimbabwe P.Kritzinger held the innings together for Boscombe scoring 87 not out. Hythe did claim three more wickets - Chiverton having Kummentha caught by Gareth Mead for 2 and Jack Knight Owen claiming 2 wickets in 2 balls. Boscombe finishing on 225 for 8 off their 42 overs.
Special praise to all the young lads who kept going in the field particuarly Jordan Blandford who made some excellent stops.
Hythe's reply started in drizzle and the opening pair of North and Stovell looked comfortable against the home sides openers. 37 came off the first 10 overs before North fell caught off Shekh for 8. Four more overs took place before the heavens opened - Stovell ending on 38* inc 6x4's and Knight-Owen 7 not out.- Hythe 58 for 1 off 12.2 overs.
