BISHOPS WALTHAM vs HYTHE 1st XI
(Friendly)
Saturday 30th April
HYTHE GO INTO LEAGUE CAMPAIGN WIN LESS
 |
| Harry SMITH 34* & 4-41 |
Hythe 1st XI were well beaten in their final pre season friendly of the season against against County 4 opposition Bishops Waltham. When asking some of the players why we struggled ' The wind changed direction second innings. When we bowled it was against the bowler - But the Waltam batsman batted well'
The foundation of BW's win was a 117 opening stand of 117 between Dave Oddie and Michael Barrett went onto score 132 (inc 20x4 and a six ) whilst opening partner Dave Oddie scored 50 with 10 fours.
Saunders (1 for 30) had Oddie caught in the covers, then Hythe fought back through spinner Harry Smith who ripped through the middle. BW going from 117-1 to 160 for 4. Chris Wheeler steadied the ship and added 52 with Barrett and then Tony Boby hit 22* with some clean striking as 30 came from the last 3 overs. Smith finished with 4 for 41 after bowling Barrett in the final over. Tom Richards was unlucky to finish with 1-59 off 10 whilst Froggett bowled well 0-20 off 6.
Hythe were soon 4-2 after losing skipper Matt Howe and new boy John Roberts cheaply. Tongs and Rob James added added 39 before James was caught for 20. Tongs fell soon after for 17 and Hythe struggled to 81 for 6 when Froggett (8) and Edwards (5) both fell without really troubling the scorer.
Tom Richards and Harry Smith added 25 before Richards (batting with a runner) was caught by Oddie off Paton for 4. Harry Smith played some nice shots in a innings of 34 not out but wickets fell concistently at the other end and Hythe were well beaten by 88 runs as they finished 155 all out.
Good luck to Waltham in their quest to get of County 4 - Hythe meanwhile begin their league campaign at home to East Tytherley next week and need to improve.
