Shrive & Stovell Star In Pre Season Win

Hythe 3rd XI's with a new look side won their pre season friendly @ Shedfield vs Bishops Waltham 3rd XI after bowling the home side out for 141. The Green Caps in reply reached their mark in the 25th over losing only 3 wickets in the process.

Tony North won the toss and as you guessed it - elected to field first. Northy wanted to see all his latest bunch of recruits through the colts section - bowl, so opened with Sam Long down hill. Kev McCarthy came up the hill minus his trousers.(Yes - Mr.efficient) ironed his shirt and socks as normal but forgot his trousers so shorts had to do.

The first 3 overs went for just 2 runs and then McCarthy bowled Crouch for 1. At 16 BW lost their second wicket - Salmons again bowled McCarthy 0. Long finished his spell 5 overs for 18, McCarthy 5 overs 2-0. Maybe he should forget the trousers every week.

At 10 overs BW moved onto 17 for 2 before North introduced debutaant Nick Shrive to the attack First over was one to forget (14 coming off of it) as A.C Ball played some very nice shots. Jack Knight-Owen came on at the other end. In the 14th over with the score on 46 - Knight-Owen had Lawrence very well caught by McCarthy for 10. Shrive then had Hassan caught behind for 0 - BW 51 for 4. Shrive struck again bowling Bailey for 1.

Knight - Owen finished with 4 overs 1-27 before another dedutant Jonathon O'Brien took over. Shrive had BW skipper G.Ball judged LBW for 10 - Shrive ending his 5 over spell 3-32. O'Brien struggled with the slope - 2 overs 0-22 to be replaced by Kent all star - Paul Quinnell. A.C.Ball brought up a very good fifty which included 8x4's & 2x6. 34 was added with Walsh for the 7th wicket before a very good catch by Shrive in the deep off Stovell removed Ball for 59.

BW 110 for 7 off 22. Quinnell then bowled Walsh for 11 at 117 before Stovell removed Assif for 8 and then Lister for 0 with a caught & bowled. BW 141 all out in the 27th over with still half an hour before tea.

Hythe went straight out to bat with Stovell partnering Tony North. 32 came off the first 6 overs resulting BW to make a double change. By that time Stovell had his eye in and with dad watching started to strike out. In the 10th over with the score on 78 Stovell finally fell - bowled by G.Ball for 36. Shrive and North saw out til tea 82 for 0 off 12. Just after North fell - caught off A.Ball for 38. Sam Long looked in good touch before holing out for 9 off Lawrence. Hythe 101 for 3 off 17. Tom Huxley joined Shrive and added the 43 runs needed to win in just 8 overs. Shrive finishing on 33 not out despite being dropped on consecutive balls. Huxley 12 not out. Hythe 144 for 3 off 25 overs. Good game played in very good spirit despite Hythe declining a 10-10 match to watch the first team just up the road.
