Hythe Sunday XI were humbled by Coombe Bissett at Shutts Lane on Sunday with the side falling to pieces against the impressive batting of young Witshire player Jack Mynott.
Mynott scored 136 including 17x4's 7 3x6's. It was Hythe & Dibden's biggest ever defeat in Friendly Cricket.
Hythe lost the toss and were put into the field where they started reasonably well through Rob Saunders and Jonjo Stovell. Saunders took the first wicket with the score on 31 and Sam Long picked up the second on 43. However, after that Hythe struggled to contain the hosts as Mynott (136), Jeffery (22) and Burton (55*) took the Green caps to the cleaners.
Long picked up a second wicket when he dismissed Mynott while James Page also collected a caught and bowled as the hosts posted 262-4 off their 40 overs.
Hythe in reply started cautiously but took the score to 20 before Tom Richards was dismissed. After that there was a steady stream of wickets with Hythe players in the main getting themselves out either through catches in front of the wicket or poor run outs.
Barring Matt Young’s 24, Jonjo Stovell’s quick 11 and Tom Huxley’s unbeaten 9 Hythe had little to shout about with four ducks lining the scorecard. When the last wicket fell for just 70 Hythe had been handed one of their most humiliating defeats in recent times. Hopefully next week the Green Caps can pick themselves up and find some form again.
