CURDRIDGE vs HYTHE 2nd XI
Saturday 23rd April
PROCTOR THE DIFFERENCE AS HYTHE'S BATTING FALLS AWAY
James PAGE 35
Hythe took a mixture of 2nd and 3rd team players to Reading Room Lane for their annual pre season friendly against Curdridge.
After reducing the home side to 188 all out the Green Caps could only muster 123 in reply. James Page (35) batted well whilst Skipper Mike Bowman was impressed by the bowling of Chalky White as well as 3rd teamers Kev McCarthy, Ali Bryers and Sam Page.
On a pleasant sunny afternoon Curdridge batted first and got off to a flyer through skipper Craig Proctor. Fifty came off the first 6 overs but Dave Guymer did collect the wicket of Clouting for 13. Proctor went onto make 54 before he was bowled by Luke Blackwell. Guyners 5 overs went for 1-55 and Blackwells 6 overs 1-30. Curdridge 81 for 2 off 11 overs.
A double change saw the experience of Chalky White and Kev McCarthy come into the attack and the run rate reduced dramatically. McCarthys second over saw him have Hammond LBW for 0 and the next combined 10 overs went for just 7 runs. White then claimed the wicket of Gee for 7 and his next over Field for 0. Whites 7 overs went for an impressive 2-5 before he was replaced by 13 year old Ali Bryers. McCarthy finished his spell of 8 overs 1-15.
Sam Page came into the attack to replace Super Mac and he and Bryers started nervously before Bryers claimed the wicket of M.Emm for 6 whose always good for runs late on. Clode made a quick firs 16 before being bowled by Bryers for 16 and then Page bowled Kenworthy for 29. Bryers ended his spell 2-14 off 4, Huxley then had Hillier LBW for 9 and Sam Page finished off the innings bowling Candy for 5 - Curdridge 188 all out in 38 overs
Hythe got off to a cracking start through skipper Mike Bowman and Tony North - 17 off the first two overs. But then North was caught off Gee for 4 - Hythe 18 for 1. Bowman and James Page then added 64 in 14 overs before Bowman was out LBW by Emm for 19. Guymer went without scoring - Hythe 81 for 3 off 18.
Wickets then tumbled at a great rate - White was run out for 2 and Tom Huxley without scoring. 102 for 6. Young made 19 before becoming one of Candy's 4 wickets and the tail crumbled to 123 all out in the 32nd over- Curdridge won by 65 runs..
