WIMBOURNE vs HYTHE 1st XI

(Friendly)

Saturday 23rd April

GOOD START THEN HYTHE'S BATTING MELTS IN THE HEAT

 Rob JAMES 31

On a lovely hot - Hythe travelled to 'the leaze' the new home of Dorset Premier League side Wimbourne. The setting was very impressive and makes you wish Barretts would come in with a offer for Jones Lane.

Rob James captain for the day in the absense of Matt Howe won the toss and elected to bat first.

Some indifferent bowling and a cautious starts by the two Hythe openers got Hythe off to a steady start before skipper Rob James and Mike Edwards started to play their shots. The pair took the score to 58 before Hythe lost their first wicket. Robbie James unlucky to hit wicket for 31.

The first change bowling of Wimbourne changed the game when Collinson bowling leg spin removed Edwards 19 and Tom Richards 6 in a spell of 8 overs 2-8. Harry Smith went for a duck followed by Tongs 4 as the returning Woodruff look quite a different bowler to the guy that started the day.

Zac Millar batted sensibly on his first team debut as he watched wickets tumble at the other end. Hythe going from 71 for 2 to 86 all out. But credit to some good Wimbourne bowling. Millar finishing 6 not out.

Hythe's bowling opened with Harry Smith and Rob Saunders. In his second over Smith bowled the Wimbourne skipper for 8 - Wimbourne 14 for 1. Cormack and Harns added 21 before Cormack was caught by Rob James off Edwards for 19. James rung the changes looking for a nother quick break through but it didn't happen.

The next wicket fell at 81 for 3 when Suanders had Harns caught for 43. Wimbourne passed their winning mark in the 18th over but Rob James sportingly agreed to stay on the pitch to enable the Minstermen some batting practise before next weeks Dorset league opener. Another 48 runs were added before Kerrins was caught off Stovell by Smith for 28. At 151 Tom Richards had Cole judged LBW for 3 - The Minstermen 151 for 5.

James gave nine Hythe lads a bowl and the Green Caps gained two more wickets just before the end - Collinson was well caught by Harry Smith for 45 off Mike Edwards and James bowled Spratton for 44. Wimbourne finishing on 227 for 7.

Plenty for club skipper Matt Howe to think about before the start of the league campaign and proving how important next weekends friendlies are for players to find their form.

Well done to Wimbourne though - a well drilled young side who should do better than 8th for 10 in the Dorset top league this year and lovely venue.
