Hythe 3's vs Sway 2's

Hythe Well Beaten In Final Fixture

Tom HUXLEY - 28

Hythe were well beaten in their final league game of the season by Sway 2's on Sunday.

Thanks to the Sway lads - A minutes silence was observed for Tony Woodhouse between innings despite the game starting late because of Huxters car having a blow out.

Sway II's proved too strong in this final game of the Indoor season for Hythe 3's. The result means Sway 2's finish 2nd below Fawley 2's. Keano won the toss and Sway elected to bat first. The waiting around for the Hythe skipper to arrive didn't seem to effect Sway opener Rick How as his push to the walls and run tactic worked to perfection.

Pagey making his first Indoor start for the season struck first with a beaut of an inswinger to dismiss Stevenson for 3- Sway 31 for 1. Straw was then run out by a direct throw from Page for 1. How retired at 25 leaving Dave Marshall and Steve Keen at the crease. Keen however was run out by Josh Mead for 10as the batsman tried to lift the pace - Sway 80 for 3. Marshall started to accelerate but a fierce straight drive by Drayton was inadvertently deflected onto the the stumps by the bowler Kev McCarthy to run Marshall out for 18. How returned and at the end was on a fine unbeaten 34 and Drayton unbeaten on 20 as Sway racked up a competitive total of 136-4.

Between innings a minutes silence was observed in respect of Tony Woodhouse.

With no Tony North Stovell opened with James Page. Sway were clearly pumped up for the game and the first 2 overs from Marshall and Stevenson went for just 12 runs. Sway were certainly a lot smarter in the field than the Green Caps and not a single extra was conceded until late in the the 3rd over.

Stevenson got the first Hythe wicket when not for the first time this season Jonjo Stovell was bowled behind his legs for 9. In the next over - Drayton bowled James Page for 3 and Hythe were 20 for 2. One run later Hythe lost Sam Mead, bowled by Andy Straw for 5 - Hythe 21 for 3 in only the 4th over. At 27 another wicket fell - Josh Mead Josh Mead being well caught by Drayton at square leg to give Stevenson his second wicket.

With the game seemingly lost the attacking stroke play of Tom Huxley (28) gave the score some respectability - well supported by Kev McCarthy 21 not out, but in the end Hythe ended up some 47 runs short and well beaten. Man of the Match had to be Sways Andy Straw who finished with the impressive figures of 1-5 off 3 overs with 12 dot balls.
