Hythe 3's vs Fawley 2's
Stovell & Josh Mead Star as Hythe 3's Upset Fawleys 100% Record
Jonjo Stovell 29
Fawley 2's 100% record went up in smoke as Hythe 3's produced their best performance of the season to beat the Oilers by 1 Wkt with 2 balls remaining.
Skipper Jojno Stovell lead by example scoring 29 in the run chase of 99 to win helped by a fine performance from Josh Mead 23*.
Against the unbeaten league leaders Hythe got of to the perfect start when Kev McCarthy had Doe caught by Sam Mead at the back wall for 1. Rollinson made 7 before he was run out by Josh Mead. Fawley 55 for 2. Three runs later the prize wicket of Wayne Smith who was just getting into his stride - run out by Stovell for the second time this season for 17.
Kev Glass was then bowled by a fine ball from Josh Mead for 4 and the Oilers were in trouble at 66 for 4. 3rd XI skipper Hicky steadied the ship in a partnership of 26 with Ben Bolton before Bolton was run out by the ever alert Sam Mead for 11. Hickman carried his bat to the end finishing 21 not out and Fawley a under par 98 for 5 off their 12 overs which was great credit to the Hythe bowlers and their fielding. Tom Huxley was the pick of the bowlers going for just 16 off his 3 overs.
Hythe's reply got off to the worst possible start when Sam Mead bowled by Wayne Smith for a duck. When North was run out for 9 and Huxley went for 6 it looked like Fawley were setting themselves up for another win - Hythe 30 for 3. However Jonjo Stovell and Josh Mead lead the recovery with a partnership of 68 with both batting very well.
Needing 7 off the last over to win - Stovell hit the first ball for a straight 6 (his second of the game) meaning he had to retire. Next ball Kev McCarthy was judged LBW for 0 with Hythe needing just one to win. Stovell was then caught and bowled by Doe for 29 to set up an exciting finish but young Josh Mead kept his cool and a bye off the 4th ball presented Hythe with the game - Josh Mead ending on 23 not out inc 2x6's.
Great win for the Green Caps who could finish as runners up if the beat Sway 2's next time out.
