7. First Team Captain’s report: Simon read his report stating that although the season started with high hopes - in the end we managed to avoid relegation with some fantastic performances towards the end of the season plus the rain in August helped.
The batsman struggled all season with the exception of Matt Howe who scored his maiden league century against Sarisbury and Addie de Jager whose batting was unexpected, massive bonus and the main reason we keep our County 2 status. Another plus - Ben Smith showed his potential with a few handy knocks.
The bowling struggled in the main mostly to do with the hot, dry weather in the first 3 months of the season. We fielded first many times thanks to my inability to win the toss - and are fielding wasn't the best even in cooler conditions. Rob Saunders topped the bowling averages though he will appreciate he can bowl better. Ben Smith bowled beautifully and had no luck. Wrighty got himself 7 for against Flamingo.
I felt all in all County 2 was an average standard where everyone could beat each other apart from Langley Manor. Young players need to replace the older heads in the side to assist the team in the field.
On a personal note - after 6 years in charge its time for a change though I have been delighted and proud to captain the side and maintain our County 2 status. I hope everyone gives Matty the same support. Thanks to Trevor Vaughan for umpiring. Matt for being my vice captain - The Groundstaff - Woody for his support as Chairman and the ladies for the teas and scoring.
7. Second Team Captain’s Report: Mike Bowman read his report stating that although Hythe 2nd XI finished 7th in SW2 - Won 8 Lost 6 and finishing runners up in the Stone Cup it was a disappointing season as we started with the best side the 2nd XI had ever had during his reign. Mike felt promotion was should have our aim at least. However things didn't work out as planned - the main reason I felt was the lack of belief in the side - for example the game at Mudeford where we failed to chase down a very big score after the hard work had been done. This would have given us a massive boost for the rest of the season. The need to win ugly is what I'm urging for next season.
First team call ups were also another reason for the 7th place finish. Whilst I appreciated its the 2nd teams duty to feed the first team - but it was frustrating especially as I didn't want to desimate the 3rd XI whilst they were in with a shout of winning the title. I felt it was impossible to replace the likes of Sean Tongs who moved upto the Firsts. The Stone Cup Final was another example where we lost Sean and Harry (because they had played too many first team games) between the Semi's and Final whilst Sway had their full team to choose from.
Positives though - Great team spirit - Good blend of experience and youth - No egos on show - The best fielding side in the league - In between injuries Harry Smith made solid progress as did the excellent Matt Young. Wayne again topped the batting and bowling avaerages proving again how valuable he is to the side. Russell Moore took 7 for against Suttoners.
Thanks to Gary for his help - Anne for the teas and Becky for scoring.
8. Sunday Captain’s Report: Unavailable
9. Colt’s Report: Richie reported another fine season from the colts. The sides are already i training for 2011 but with Nathan giving up cricket - this is likely to be Richie and Sues last year running the section.
The Under 11's in the pairs league and coached by Tom Huxley with help from Pauline Gilbert - finished 5th out of 8. Newcomers Lewie Fay and Sam Fenton have both been selected for the New Forest District side for 2011. Tom Richards will manage the side in 2011 with the help of Helen Fay
The Under 13's managed by Tom Nicholas finished 5th out of 15 teams only being beaten by the A sides from New Milton, Mudeford and Bashley. They retained the Phil Pick Trophy and reached the Semi-Finals of the Forest Cup. Ali Bryers again made the District side for 2011 and in 2011 the Under 13's will be managed by Tom Huxley as the bulk of his under 11's move up.
The Under 15's finished 9th out of 12 in a league where we were most of the lads were a year below the age group. Zac Millar, Josh Mead and Kieran Chalmers all played for the district side. Zac will play for the District in 2011.
The Under 17's managed by Sally Harding in her last season finished 10th out of 14 teams. Pete Stannett and Matt Young will manage the Under 17's in 2011 but they will need help with transport.
Tina Page has decided to step down as Welfare Officer after 2 years.
Richie expressed that the club needs to decide who is going to tae the Colts forward over the next few years. Richie will continue to manage and coach after this year but we need to find someone to take over the general organisation from next year and Sue can have her living room back.
Many of the Colts have expressed a an interest in completing their coaching badge.
