Hythe 2's vs Sway 1's
Bellie's Boys Turn Over Table Toppers Sway
Wayne EFFENY 49*
Hythe 2's blew the Division 2 title wide open with a 3 wicket win over table toppers Sway on Sunday. Bellie's boys put in their best fielding display of the season before Wayne Effeny lead the run chase with 49 not including 1x4 and 2x6's.
Bellie's Sunday got off to the worst of starts when his sunday lunch was interrupted with news that Crouchey was on his sick bed. Going through his red book of player available to play - who better to call on for the big game than Corporal Saunders to face Sway's Navy Guru Jon Grasham - only Hythe got the the venue to find Grasham wasn't playing.
Hythe won the toss and elected to field first but Sway got off to a good start through Clark and Hall. With 58 on the board Hythe claimed their first wicket when Bellie showed his 'LeTissier' skills from the centre of the park to run out Clark for 15. Nine runs later Mike Bowman claimed the big scalp of Atapattu with a great catch from Rob Saunders for 4.
Hall 28*, How 24 and Rodway 22 all rallied to push the score along but three run outs involving Bell and Tongs kept breaking up the partnerships. With some excellent ground fielding particularly on the back wall Hythe reduced Sway to 118 for 5.Pick of the Hythe bowlers - Rob Saunders 0-19 off 3 great effort.
Hythe then swapped the batting order around with Mike Bowman promoted to open with Wayne Effeny. The pair put on 26 for the first wicket before Bowman was run out for 11. Bell joined Effeny and the pair added 19 before Effeny retired not out. At 54 - Young was run out for 4 and the game was evenly balanced.
Bell and Tongs kept the runs flowing - Bell then retiring 27 not out before Tongs was bowled by Atapattu for 10 at 88 for 3. But the returning Effeny with all his 30 years experience kept cool to win the game for Hythe with 5 balls to spare.
