Hythe 2's vs Ringwood

Last Over Defeat by 2's - Now Have To Beat Ringwood & Sway

Wayne EFFENY 27*

Hythe 2's suffered a surprise defeat in their last game before the Christmas break going down in the last over at the hands of Ringwood. To stand any chance of promotion - they now have to beat table toppers Sway and Ringwood in the New Year.

Ringwood won the toss and elected to put the Green Caps into bat. Hythe started well with Wayne Effeny and Sean Tongs both retired not out - Tongs hitting 2x4's in his 26* and Effeny 1x6 in his 27*. Bell upped the pace scoring 20 not out including 2x4's. The only wicket to fall Matt Young for 9. Hythe finishing on a disappointing 118 for 1 but credit must go to the Ringwood lads on the back wall who saved 20+ runs.

Hythe got the early breakthrough they needed when Bell pounced like a gazelle to run our Brockway with the help of Tongs for 0. Ringwood 2-1.

Ringwood recovered thanks to the dangerous Seymour and Slater. Seymour retired and soon after at 65 Bell & Tongs struck again to get rid of Jones for 9. Slater also retired after some hard hitting and with Melbourne also finding the back wall (just out of the grasps of the Hythe back fielders) it was proving a frustating evening for Hythe. Ringwood lost their 3rd wicket at 105 - when Bell and Tongs again struck to remove Jones for 9 - If there's a better fielder at backward point than Belly in the league we haven't seen it.

109-4 and Hythe were back in the game when Effeny run out Melbourne 24. That brought back Slater to join Seymour and with 2 overs left the brewers required 14 off the final two overs. Effeny bowled a superb maiden to in the penultimate with just 4 coming for leg byes.

Last over 10 to win Bellie went with the usually reliable Matt Young but the Ringwood lads got home with 2 balls to spare. Hythe unfortunately were 15 runs light when batting with to many dot balls.

Bellie would like to thank Becky for scoring and Rob Saunders for umpiring.
