Hythe 1's vs Paultons
Rough Justice As Hythe Lose Farcical Game.

Hythe 1's turned up to find their opponents with 5 players but no umpire which would mean playing with 4. Paultons wanted to forfeit until Hythe agreed to give Paultons an umpire to allow the match to go ahead and field 5 players but then at half time the 6th Paultons player turns up to bat at 3 and blast 74* - winning the game for the Southern League Club by 1 wicket with 2 balls remaining. Hythe lose and the committee say Paultons have done no wrong.
Hythe batting first against last years runners up again got off to a good start through Matt Howe and Tom Richards. Howe retired and at 56 Richards fell for 17. Rob James went for 1 with the score on 64. Harry Smith 27* and Richie Froggett 30 retired not out set upon the Paultons attack and with Matt Howe 27 not out at the end - Hythe finished on 145 for 3. C.Ray the best of the Paultons bowlers 1-22 off 3.
Paultons lost their first wicket with 20 on the board when Matt Howe run out Weaver 5. In stepped the 6th man in the shape of the experienced Rob O'Brien who was apparantely late because he thought it was a 6pm start !!! - Nice one Rob how on earth did you organize yourself to play cricket in australia a few years ago . Surely he should have had to bat at 6
At 57 Paultons lost two more wickets when Ray was run out by Richards for 15 and Froggett had Ennew caught by Richards for 0. O'brien looked in menacing form but at 74 Harry Smith had Lamb stumped by Gary Howe for 4 and Rayner was run out by Richards leaving O'Brien on his own with 72 still needed.
But the Southern League player achieved it with 2 balls remaining 74 not out. For Hythe Richie Froggett 1-24 off 3 returned the best figures in a good game - shame about the circumstances.
