BRAMSHAW vs HYTHE XI
(Friendly)

GREEN CAPS EARN OVERDUE WIN AT BRAMSHAW

Matt YOUNG 74* inc 9x4's & 2x6's
You'd have to go back to the eighties to read when a Hythe senior side last won a game at Roundhill but a stong all round performance gave the Green Caps the win with 2 balls remaining.
The homeside batted first and after 12 overs looked set for 300 yet youngsters Harry Smith, Josh Mead, Tom Huxley and Jonjo Stovell pegged Bramshaw back to 235 all out. A opening stand of 109 between Sean Tongs 62 & Tom Richards 40 got Hythe off to the perfect start Matt Young 76* and Harry Smith 36* added an unbeaten 73 for the 4th wicket to win the game,
A youthful Hythe XI travelled to Bramshaw for this end of season friendly. Bramshaw won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first on a good batting surface.
Bramshaw got off to a crackling start through skipper Tim Rogers and Z.D'Monte - 71 coming off the first 8 overs. Harry Smith was introdueced into the attack early and in his second over caught & bowled Rogers for 31. The 100 came up in the 14th over before Smith then had D'Monte caught by Saunders for 46. Bramshaw 104-2.
Catches then went down at an alarming rate - Jonjo Stovell 2, Tom Huxley 3, Matt Young, a Josh bottler and a superb catch by Sam Mead on the boundary but a no ball was called. One of three catches caught off a no ball. Huxter redeemed himself though bowling Terris for 37 and soon after Josh Mead had Tom Arnold caught by Richards for 6 and then Huxley bowled Agha for 6 - Bramshaw 199 for 5. Four runs later Stovell had J.Arnold caught by Russell Moore 0 and at 211 he bowled T.Alford for 4. Saunders came on and got rid of last seasons ton man M.Alford for 23 very well caught by Zac Millar running backwards and then bowling Whitcher for 0. The final wicket went down when Curl was run out for 0 by Millar - Bramshaw 235 all out in 39 overs. A good effort from Hythe
Sean Tongs opened with Tom Richards and the guru wasted no time spraying the ball round to the boundary. 60 came up in 10 overs and 109 in 20. First over after drinks Richards was caught off Agha for 40 and ten runs later Tongs went for 62. Sam Mead was caught off J.Arnold for 2 and when Zac Millar went for 1 Hythe were 165 for 4 off 31 overs.
Needing 71 off 9 Matt Young and Harry Smith showed great maturity in knocking off the singles and bad balls. Young reached his fifty with a four and with 4 overs left Hythe were down to 24 required. Fair play to Bramshaw they bowled all 11 players to give them a game. But with 8 balls remaining Smith hit the winning runs to give Hythe a long awaited win at Roundhills. Young finished on 74 not out inc 9x4's 2x6's and Smith 36 not out inc 4x4's
