RICHI HIT BY NERVOUS NINTIES IN FINAL HOME WIN

By Web - September 3 2010
Hythe closed another seasosn cricket @ Jones Lane with a crushing 8 wkt victory over the Golden Age, With it being the second time the sides have met in three days Hythe were hoping to bat but Rob Saunders lost the toss and into the field we went. Golden Age made 133 for 8 off their 40 overs. Two wickets a piece for the skipper Saunders and the annual one wicket a year for Barry Stovell. Hythe then raced to 99 for 0 before Tom Huxley fell for 13. With Tom Richards closing in on his first ton and Hythe cruising the crowds gathered to celebrate Richi's ton only for him to be bowled on 94.  A big shame for Hythe's most promising palyer of the year. As for Golden Age they stayed around for a few drinks and were great tourists all weekend.

HYTHE XI vs GOLDEN AGE (London)

Played @ Jones Lane

Monday 30th August

RICHI HIT BY THE NERVOUS NINTIES

Tom RICHARDS 94 inc 15x4's & 1x6

Golden Age CC were the visitors for Hythe's final home game of the season at Jones Lane. Hythe skipper Rob Saunders lost the toss and the Green Caps unfortunately were put into the field. The London tourists scored 133 for 8 off their 40 overs against some disciplined Hythe bowling. Hythe in reply saw an opening stand off 99 between Tom Richards and Huxley. Richards going on to score 94 as Hythe won by 8 wkts

With army Rob at the helm probably still hung over from the weekends session. Rob opened up with Sam Mead thinking he had the bowler of the Mead family. Jonjo Stovell opened up from the top end helped for pace from his new no 1 haircut for speeed. But it was Sam Mead who claimed the first wicket as he had Reed caught for 4 with the score on 26. Stovells 4 overs went for 27 before Richard Jones was brought into the attack with Chalky White. Goldon Age moved onto 57 before the second wicket fell. Ahmed bowled by Saunders for 14. Saundrs then removed the dangerous Taylor for 35 before Jones bowled Barr for 16. - Goldon Age 81 for 4.

Richards had Patet stumped by Matt Young for 4 and then Huxley run oput Loveridge for 12. Huxley then had Hawkins caught by Jonjo Stovell for 3 before Barry Stovell came on for his annual over to have Thornton caught by Saunders for 0. Richardson finished on 21 not out and Goldon Age 133 for 8 off their 40 overs.Hythe opened with the two Toms - Huxley and Richards and they got off to a good start 38 for 0 off 10. By the 19th over they had moved onto 91 for 0 when play had to be stopped as the visitors wicket keeper got a ball in the mouth and was rushed off to hospital.

At 99 Huxley was bowled for 13. Tongs came to the crease and smashed two fours as Richards went into the nervous ninties. With players on the touchline asking if Richie would be the youngest player to get a Hythe ton - you know what happened next - bowled for 94. 15x4's and 1x6 from the clubs most promising player this year - but no ton.

Tongs 14* and Woods 1* finished the game - Hythe winning by 8 wickets against a very sporting side who stayed around for drinks for a few hours afterwards listening to army Robs many tales.
