HYTHE SECURE SAFETY IN STYLE WITH THE HELP OF A FROGGIE FIVE

Richie FROGGETT 5-34

Richie Froggett returned from holiday just in time for the final game of the league season and helped himself to 5-34 and give Hythe a 85 run win which secures their place in County 2 for another season. Hythe batted first scoring 164 for 8 in difficult batting conditions. Matt Howe scoring 44.

In a game Hythe had to win - the green caps were put into bat first and got off to a good start through Rob James and Matt Howe. The pair scored 46-0 off the first 10 overs and 65 for the first wicket before James was bowled by Bulldock for 18. Matt Howe soon followed after scoring a very good 44 and when de Jager was caught off Bulldock for 2 Hythe were 76 for 3 off 17.

Hythe continued to rock as Tom Porter was run out by the Guru for 5 - 92 for 4 off 24. 27 was then added between Tongs and Wright before Wright was bowled by Newton for 8. Tongs finally went in the 38th ober - caught off Newton for 26 and at 143 Kev James fell caught off Newton for 13. Skipper Simon Dixon in his final game as skipper 11* and Richie Froggett 14 added a valuable 19 more runs at the end leaving Hythe 164 for 8 at the close.

East Tytherley found the conditions much harder to bat on as Richie Froggett and Addie de Jager ripped their top order to pieces. In just the 4th over Froggett bowled Harris for 2. In his next over he then had Neagle LBW for 5. de Jager then bowled Smith for 0 and in only the 8th over Froggett claimed his third wicket when he bowled Merrick for 0. East Tytherley 13 for 4. Three overs later de Jager bowled Hodder for 3 and then skipper Si Dixon took a good catch of de Jager to remove Pearce for 6. - East Tytherley 25 for 6. De Jagers spell of 7 overs ended 3-2 whilst Froggett continued through.

Rob Saunders found bowling a little more difficult as Will Edwards played some delightful shots. Froggett removed Snell for 16 with the score on 53 in the 18th over. His 5th wicket came in his final over bowling Richard Kersey for 0. Froggett ended with a seasons best 5-34 then Wright replaced to get a wicket in his first over - Newton bowled for 3. Saunders after receiving some treatment finally got his man when de Jager caught Edwards for 29 - East Tytherley 79 all out.

Hythe win by 85 runs with relief plain to see as survival was secured without relying on anyone else. The players applauded skipper Dixon off the pitch in his final game as captain. Six years excellent service as skipper keeping the green caps in county 2 with all the headaches - great achievement.
