HYTHE 3rd XI vs COLDEN COMMON 2nd XI
Saturday 15th August
HYTHE ON TOP WHEN RAIN HALTS TITLE CHASE
 | |
| Tom RICHARDS 52 | Ian PRENCTICE 5-15 |
Rain ended play early at Thornberry Avenue with Ian Prentice running riot through the Coldon Common batting line up 5-15 off 4. Common were 87 for 7 chasing 150 to win yet had the rain come 5 overs later Hythe would have suffered defeat on run rate.
Earlier Tom Richards scored a fine 52 with Sean Tongs 30 in Hythe's 149 all out. Common utlised the cancellation of their first teams game by calling upon L.Stevens who took 5-33.
Northy looked at the Hythe team sheet and said yep were going to bat first. Opening with Tongs and Stovell Hythe got off to a strong start - 32-0 after 5 with the guru looking in good nick. In the 7th over however a lazy shot by Stovell - caught Hythe 35 for 1. Tongs went soon after playing onto his stumps for 30. That brought together Tom Richards and Tom Porter. The pair started cautiously as the run rate dropped from 5 an over when the guru was in - to 4 an over when Porter went caught and bowled for 17 in the 25th over - Hythe 105 for 2.
From there Hythe's innings disintergrated with only Graham 11 gettting into double figures. Hythe 149 all out in 32.1 overs.
Coldon Common started well with A.Palmer their First XI run machine leading the way - 44 for 0 off 6 though McCarthy struggling with a shoulder injury did give a chance which Knight Owen dropped. Super Kev though came off after 3 overs to be replaced by Ian Prentice who got instant success. With the final ball of his first over he had Lyons caught by Tongs for 22. Next over Blackwell had Swain LBW for 0 - Common 56 for 2 off 8. Next over Prentice got the big wicket - Palmer excellently caught by Porter for 31.
Blackwell then bowled C.James for 0 and Prentice had Coward very well caught by Tom Richards for 3. - 68 for 5. The clouds were darkening and thunder started a few miles away. Prentcie then claimed two wickets in an over - Tongs caught Vagama for 0 and Richards with another fine catch caught Jacobs for 9. 81 for 7. Blackwell finished his 7 over spell 2-34 and North went with Stovell to drag out the overs just in case Hythe went past the 20 mark before the rain and it went to run rate. Stovell did get a chance of a wicket when Chiverton dropped Shepard but soon after down came the rain and match abandoned.
Hythe remain top with two games to go but Community, Hamble and Sarisbury all are in hot chase.
