HOWE - DE JAGER SUPER SHOW BUT STILL NO WIN

By Web - July 30 2010
A Matt Howe - Adriaan de Jager super show couldn't prevent Hythe 1's form going down to their 10th defeat of the season. Sarisbury batted first scoring 295 for 4 with some of the old campaigners in the crowd saying that they had never seen a Hythe 1st team field so poorly - The rock hard ground and lightening outfield didn't help. In reply De Jager 132* & Matt Howe 111 put on 175 for the 3rd wicket. Howe's knock was his first league ton and included 12x4's & 1x6 whilst De Jagers 132* inc 9x6's & 4x4's. In the end Hythe finished on 282 for 4 - 11 runs short.

175 Run Partnership

579 Runs scored in 90 overs for the loss of just 8 wickets - a brilliant 175 partnership between Adriaan de Jager and Matt Howe ( his first league ton) yet Hythe still end up on the losing end by 11 runs. Now with a 2-9 record Hythe go to Ropley next week in what has to be a must win game. Ropley lie one position below Hythe 2 places above the drop zone.

Sarisbury went into the game on the back of a 2 consecutive defeats and batted first on a dust bowl of a wicket. C.Day and J.Hoskins put on 164 for the first wicket in 29 overs as Hythe fielded like a side out of dads army. Ben Smith captured the wicket of Hopkins for 78 and Hythe had to wait until the 35th over with the score on 209 to get a second. - Day caught by Tom Porter off Matt Howe for a very good 105.

M.Bond was run out by Froggett for 10 with the score on 254 and Hythe captured another bowling point when at 280 - Saunders bowled Evans for 13. Sarisbury finishing on 295 for 4 - Richie Froggett 0-45 off 10 the most economical for the Green Caps.

Needing 6.5 an over Hythe were back to the Rob James - Matt Howe opening partnership. The pair added 49 before James was caught off Bond for 12 in the 7th over. Sean Tongs was then run out for 1 and another Hythe collapse looked on the cards. But a brilliant 175 run partnership in 30 overs between Matt Howe and Adriaan de Jager kept Hythe in the game. Howe reached his first league century inc 11x4's and a six before falling to a catch off Hoskins.

Hythe then lost Wright bowled by Hoskins for 5 before De Jager brought up his ton inc 6x4's & 4x6's. Richie Froggett and de Jager added 47 in 6 overs but with 31 needed off the last proved too much and Hythe finished 11 runs short. de Jager finishing on 132 not out - 9x6's & 4x4's
