TOUR MATCH

HYTHE XI vs EXNING (Suffolk)

Tuesday 27th July

Another De Jager Ton But Exning Boys Far Too Strong For Green Caps

Tuesdays midweek game saw a Hythe XI entertain Exning from Suffolk as part of their 3 match New Forest Tour. The tourists had beaten Lymington the day before and play another Southern League outfit in Calmore Sports on Wednesday. Hythe were filling in for Bashely who had double booked and always knew they were in for a tough game.

Exning batted first scoring 294 for 6 off their 40 overs. Ben Smith who won the tourists 'opponents man of the match award' took 4-51.

Hythe in reply made 241 for 6 after being 59 for 5. Adriaan de Jager 102 & Ben Smith 51 shared a 6th wicket stand of 147 to earn a lot of respect from the tourists. Matt Young chipped in with 28* at the end.

147 - 6th Wkt Partnership

Hythe welcomed Two Counties (Suffolk & Essex) Division 1 side Exning to Jones as the Green Caps tried to fill in for Bashley who had double booked their fixture. The visitors batted first and a 187 opening partnership in just 26 overs set the tone for a very big score. Addie de Jager tried no less than 9 bowlers to try and stem the flow of runs on Hythe's dust bowl of a wicket.

One bowler who did put the breaks on was Ben Smith he bowled 4-51. Luke blackwell also chipped in with 2-31 as the tourists piled up 294 for 6 off their 40 overs.

Hythe opened their reply with Sean Tongs and Zac Millar but were soon in trouble. Millar was caught for 0 and Stovell ct & bd for 2 and Balckell stumped for 0. When Tongs also fell for 12 at 17 for 4 it looked as if it was going to be an embarrasement. However skipper Adriaan de Jager and Tom Porter 17 started the recovery with a 42 partnership before Porter was stumped by March who for 62 years of age was as good as any keeper Hythe have.

Hythe 59 for 5 off 17 overs. But the Hythe prdie was restored by a magnificent 147 partnership between de Jager and Ben Smith. De Jager scored 102 which included 17x4's and a six to bring up his ton whilst Smith scored 51 which included 6x4's and 2x6's. The partnership ended in the 36th over with the score on 207. Matt Young then added a quick fire 28* under pressure from the sideline to have a go. Hythe ending on 241 for 7 a good effort.

Afterwards Hythe witnessed the Exnings fines court where they presented Ben Smith with a Exning Cap for his performance and Jiggy with a momento.

All good fun and a very sporting bunch of guys who looked after the bar well.
