HYTHE 3rd XI vs CLAYHILL DRAGONS
Saturday 24th July
ANOTHER WIN FOR HYTHE 3rds BUT CLAYHILL MAKE THEM WORK
Tom RICHARDS 40 & 4-30
Hythe 3rd XI remain at the top of Central 4 after a 61 run win over Clayhill Dragons but the league newcomers made the Green Caps work hard for their 22 points.
Hythe made 207 for 9 batting first but it took 19 overs to break the dragons opening partnership. Only 2 late wickets from Tom Richards bowling leggies earned Hythe an extra point which they didn't deserve.
On a pleasant day at Thornberry Avenue Hythe were asked to bat by the Dragons. Tony North again opened with Zac Millar and both were soon in full flow. 41 came off the first 5 but at 52 Millar was out caught and bowled for 21. North and Richards took the Hythe score onto 80 off 12 when North was again bowled round his legs for 40.
Richards and Stovell then added 62 for the 3rd wicket. At drinks Hythe were 123 for 2 and 250 looked possible. At 142 though Hythe lost 3 wkts for 1 run. Richards was bowled by Callum for 40 then very next ball Addie Trevanna missed a beaut 0. Stovell then got a corker that lifted and moved - caught for 23.
Prentice made 11 including a towering six before he was caught at deep cover - Hythe 170 for 6. Paul Quinnell was then bowled by Callum for 0. Hythe moved into the 200's with a 36 run partnership between Tom Huxley 27 and Luke Blackwell 19. - Hythe ending on 207 for 9.
Clayhill got off to a patient start - 28 for 0 after 10 and 58 for 0 off 18. Hythe had their chances but poor fielding let them down on occasions. Luke Blackwell's 6 over spell went for 28 whilst Kev McCarthy had to wait till his 9th over to get the breakthrough - Scott Sharp caught behind by Tony North 28. Clayhill 57 for 1 - McCarthy 1-28 off 9.
One wicket always brings another and it did again when Tom Richards had S.Thompson stumped by North for 1. At 62 Richards & North struck again in the same fashion to dismiss J.Hannah for 3. Was this going to be the collapse Hythe needed - answer - no. Mark Fry and R.Winter added 82 for the 4th wicket to frustrate Hythe and it wasn't until the 41st over when Chiverton had Fry well caught by Stovell in the deep for 69 and in the final over Richards took 2 more clean bowleds to give Hythe 3 bowling points.
The ever improving Clayhill finishing on 146 for 6 but Hythe winning by 61 runs
