HYTHE UNDER 13's vs NEW MILTON 'A'
22nd July @ Jones Lane
Season Ends With Defeat To 2nd Place New Milton 'A'

Alex NICHOLAS 17*
It was 2nd vs 4th at Jones lane on Thursday evening as the Green Caps entertained runners up and cup finalists New Milton 'A'. Hythe struggled to stem the runs from a strong New Milton batting line up who scored 147 runs from 18 overs for the loss of 1 wicket. Hythe scored 76 for 6 off the 18 overs to gain only 3 points in the league. A definite drop in the league tables by one place but could be as much as 3 places to 7th.
Alex won the toss and decided to put New Milton into Bat. A strong fielding performance was required to keep New Milton A at bay. The overall fielding performance was good, New Milton just seemed to keep the scoreboard ticking over at a good rate. Alex and Sam Long opened the bowling and New Milton were 32 for 0 off 6 overs. Ali and Elliot took the next batch of overs and Ali clean bowled the No2 in the 9th over for 13. The opening batsman Brad New retired in the 11th over 31no. Two expensive overs in the 13th and 15th over went for 46 runs and saw New Milton go through the century barrier and the No4 batsman G.Watts retire on 32no. Jordan Blandford bowled 3 tidy overs for 11 runs and New Milton eventually totalled 147 runs off the 18 overs with Alex Mills at the crease 26 not out. The fielding was good, good returns to the keeper but 24 wides and 12 no balls allowed New Milton to accelerate the score on top of some good batting.
Hythe and Dibden went into bat looking for a high score, realistically 95 runs for 5 batting points was our initial target. Billy Allan having faced the fewest deliveries in matches played was offered a choice of positions and elected to open, brave man!! One run later and a very close run out!! Billy flipped the ball to Watts and was out for 1 run in the 1st over. Elliot as No2 followed Billy to the pavilion in the 2nd over when caught by Crossley off Smiths bowling for 5 runs. Harrison with a 100.7% strike rate to maintain, struggled against the accurate bowling of Smith and Smith was bowled by Smith for 1 run. 9 runs off 4 overs for 3 wickets. Alex and Ali were now at the crease and both were tied down with the accurate bowling of New Milton. The score moved gradually on and Ali was then bowled in the 11th over with score at the end of the over 34 for 4 of 11.
Sam Long now at the crease helped himself to some boundaries off the slower spin deliveries. With batsmen waiting to come in we needed to hit out for some batting points, the score moved onto 67 for 5 off 16 overs when Sam was given out LBW . Jordan joined Alex but was bowled by Watts after 3 balls. With 10 balls remaining Ollie came to the crease, his first ball was edged to third man to get him off the mark. The last over saw a wide two singles and Ollie hit a straight boundary. Ollie not out for 7 off 6 deliveries and Alex not out on 17. Final score was 76 for 6 off 18 overs, a lower score than we wanted and we gave their bowlers more respect than was warranted with |New Milton using all the team to bowl. 3 important batting points gained and we'll see where we end up. A lot of cricket this week , 4 games , won the Phil Pick trophy, reached the semi final in the cup and a good win over Pylewell. An impressive season , 4th in the league before today and when you compare that against some of the big clubs who can field 2 teams we have done extremely well. Thanks for all of your good work and results over the season. Hope to see you all at the BBQ on Monday 26th at 6:30pm.
