CALMORE TOO STRONG FOR UNDER 13'S IN SEMI-FINALS

By Web - July 24 2010
Hythe Under 13's were well beaten in the New Forest Cup Semi-Finals by a very professional Calmore Sports outfit. Calmore batted first scoring 133 for 4 off their 20 overs. Hythe ploughed away and Elliott Carley took 2-24, Jordan Blandford 1-37. Hythe in reply struggled from the off against some quick tight bowling and were bowled our for 40. With 20 clubs staring out in the competition the lads did well to reach the last 4.

HYTHE UNDER 13's vs CALMORE SPORTS

18th July @ Jones Lane

Calmore to Strong for the Green Caps in the Semi Final

Calmore won the toss and elected to bat on a clouded over Jones Lane pitch, Donovan and Johns the opening pair for Calmore took a single off Alexs' 1st over as they batted themselves in. Elliot took the 2nd over and Donovan took his first boundary. The pair after 3 overs on 17. Elliot changed to coming around the wicket and had Donovan LBW for 8 runs. Woodall the No 3 batsmen took a single followed by a four in the 4th over and the two batsmen dominated the bowling with some fine shots. Woodall retired 30 not out in the 8th over with 57 on the board having taken 10 runs in that over. Good fielding by Hythe stopped the run rate escalting with stops from Matt Bennett and Jordan Blandford. Jordan claimed the 2nd wicket in the 10th over by bowling the o4 for 10 runs. Calmore at this stage 71 for 2 off 10. The left handed No 2, Johns eventually reached 32 not out in the 14th over finishing on a four.

The 15th over saw Calmore pass the 100 mark and looking towards a large total that the Green caps hadn't seen before. In the 17th over Calmore were pressing for runs and from a drive to Jordan the batsmen went for a quick run, Jordan had a direct hit on the stumps from 20 yards as we claimed the 3rd wicket. Calmore pressed on in the last 5 overs and Elliot Carley bowled the No 7 in the last over. Calmore finishing on an impressive 133 for 4 off 20 overs. The green caps fielded well and gave only 4 byes with the total extras adding to 15, one of the lowest totals this season.

The Green Caps may have been underdogs for this game but the score was reachable as we had chased down 111 in 17 overs 3 day earlier. The Calmore opening bowler had different ideas and with some quick pace bowling took Elliots bails off with his second delivery, Alex next in and out went first ball to another fine delivery, this time popping the ball back to the bowler for an easy catch. Ali Bryers stood at the other end watching the wickets fall. Holden on a hat Trick ball was denied by an edge as Harrison snook one day to long off. One for two off one became one for three off 2 as Harrison was bowled by Carey at the opposite end. Jordan hit a trademark boundary off his first ball from Carey and after a maiden from Holden was then bowled during Careys' next over. Dismal score on 8 runs for 4 wickets from 4 overs. One run came from the 5 and 6th over as we tried to gain some respect and hold onto a couple of wickets. Ali defended well and Ollie held out for 13 balls until Holden claimed his 3rd wicket in the 7th over.

No runs came from the 8th 9th and 10th over and 3 runs from the 11th over. In the 12th over Archie was caught off the bowling from Cullen and then Billy Allan gave the bowler a caught and bowled on his next delivery. 12 overs gone , 19 for 7. The scored moved onto 26 when we lost the 8th wicket of Tom Copley bowled for 4 off Hines. Ali who had stood fast for 16 overs was bowled by Cullen for 9 ( Hythes top score, playing ) in a defensive role to try and at least bat the 20 overs out and reach some sort of total. This eventually left the Nos 10 and 11 at the crease and Ben Fenton hit a worthy 8 runs from 15 deliveries before being caught and left Matt Bennett at the crease 3 not out.

A day to remember was now a day to forget, beaten by a good all round team. We did well to get to the semis and unfortunatley did not bat to our potential and at least give them a run for their money. Next year we can but hope to achieve better.
