HYTHE UNDER 13's vs LANGLEY MANOR

19th July @ Jones Lane

Hythe Retain Phil Pick Trophy

Hythe Under 13's

The Green Caps displayed the batting firepower they are capable of, after scoring 131 runs off 15 overs against Langley Manor to retain the Phil Pick Trophy. A young Langley Manor side managed 79 for 7 in reply.

Langley Manor won the toss and put Hythe into Bat. A good result considering we only had 10 players at the start of the match and our dismal performance the previous day chasing a large score. Elliot opened the batting and with a bye put Alex on strike and consistency was not what Alex wanted, first ball, indecisive block / drive and the ball popped to mid wicket and was caught again - Deja Vu, Groundhog day - Please No!!. Harrison in at No 3 got off to a stable start leaving the first 3 balls, then running 2 off a no ball. 15 runs came off the 3rd over with the help of 4 wides and one boundary from Harrison. 27 for 1 off 3, a good start. Elliot was out LBW in the 4th over after a solid 9 runs from 11 deliveries and Jordan came to the crease. Jordan was bowled 2nd ball by Bellows for his 2nd wicket in the over with Hythe now 29 for 3 off 4. Under 11 Jacob Mould came to the crease and got off to a good start hitting a lovely boundary off his legs before being run out for 6 in the 6th over. Harrison started to hit some boundaries and after 6 overs we were on 51 for 4.

Archie was at the crease with Harrison and started to get into his rythem with 3 singles and a boundary before taking guard outside his crease, unable to untangle his stance his bat was just short of the ground before being stumped in the 8th over, by this time Harrison had moved onto his first retirement of the season with a balanced 32 runs not out, off 30 balls. Sam Long replaced Harrison with Ollie Pike as his partner. Between them they moved the score along and in the 11th over we had reached 100 runs. Sam kept the score ticking over with 4 boundaries and retired 32 not out off 27 deliveries. Billy joined Ollie at the crease and got us to a score of 131 runs off 15 overs, Billy 3 not out and Ollie 11 not out. The overs cut to 15 due to the light for the 2nd innings.

Alex opened the bowling for Hythe , was hit for four on his fourth ball and then to make matters worse a single from the bat ended up 5 with an overthrow going over the boundary. A good start for Langley, 13 off the first over. Sam had 4 byes oover the boundary off his first over and Langley 17 off 2 overs. Langleys good start was put to an end when Alex bowled his second over, he had the opener caught by Tom Copley and then clean bowled the new No 3 facing his first ball, the next delivery didn't find his hat trick but the following one clean bowled the No 4. 18 for 3 off 3 was a reversal of fortune.Tight bowling by the openers kept the scored down to 30 for 3 off 6 overs. Elliot took the 4th wicket in the 8th over from a Sam Long catch. Jordan clean bowled the No 6 in the 9th over. Jacob Mould took a fine catch in the 12th over to give Matt Bennett his first wicket of the season by taking the No2 batsman for 19. Langley Manor now on 71 for 6 off 12 overs.Harrison bowled the No 8 in the 13th over and then Ollie bowled his first over for the green caps and bowled an impressive maiden. Langley finished the innings with their No7 batsman 20 not out and taking the man of the match for Langley Manor, an innings of 79 for 7 off 15 overs.

A good win for the Green Caps retaining the Phil Pick trophy and a totally different batting performance. Sam Long pipped Harrison to the man of the match with 32 runs from 27 balls, Harrison 32 from 30. The good news is that we have a strong group of players that will be in the U13's next year to hold onto the cup for a 3rd year running. Well done to the whole team.
