Earlier Hythe had made an impressive  123-6 with Kieran Chalmers 36, Richard Jones 28 and Jack Knight-Owen 23*. The result gave Hythe their second win on the bounce and third of the summer.

NEW MILTON 'B' vs HYTHE UNDER 15's

27th June @ Fernhills

SIX OF THE BEST FOR NEW GUY MICHAEL BURKE AS UNDER 15's WIN

Kieran CHALMERS 36Michael BURKE 6-33

Hythe new boy Michael Burke stole the show taking 6-33 in only his second game for the Green Caps as Hythe beat New Milton 'B' by 21 runs.

Hythe's innings of 123 for 6 was based around a strong partnership between skipper Kieran Chalmers 36 and Richard Jones 28. Jack Knight Owen 23* hit a late flurry with 3x4's in the final over. In reply New Milton made 102 for 9

It was a blistering hot summers day with thermometers hitting 90 degrees when Hythe's Under 15s travelled to play New Milton B team. Skipper Kieran Chalmers elected to bat and opened the batting along with James Bidwell which was a first. As the game got going James was not able to hang around for too long and was bowled out for 4 runs. In came Richard Jones which saw him take much of the strike not that Kieran minded as most deliveries seemed to be either dot balls or boundary 4s. A good partnership saw Richard eventually bowled out for 28 but the foundation was set for a decent total.

The scoring slowed a bit for a few overs as Kieran kept the scoreboard ticking as Chris Griffin - 1, Jonathan Bryce - 0 and Tom Smith - 7 all came and went. Kieran was eventually out for an innings building 36 leaving none other than Jack Knight-Owen to come in with a superb flurry at the end scoring 23 not out in quick succession ably supported by Alex Nicholas who ended on 5 not out. Can I say that a normally more tentative JKO came out and played some really good cricket shots (inc 3 boundaries off the last over) and along with Alex managed to run 5 runs from one ball thanks to overthrows (that was hot work!). Good batting display from Hythe setting a total of 123 whilst losing 6 wickets.

So to the bowling which we will keep brief with the exception of a major highlight! In the opneing spell Kieran Chalmers managed to bowl out one of the openers and New Milton B found the going pretty slow work with the bowling fairly tight. However, when Kieran threw the ball to Michael Burke for what I think was only his second over of bowling for Hythe fireworks ensued! First ball was a clean bowled wicket! Rest of the was interspersed with a no-ball a wide (I think) and possibly a boundary or two but more importantly 3 other wickets including at one point being on a hatrick!! So his over included 4 wickets, two of which were clean bowled and 2 of which were catches very well taken by Marc Reid! The game had suddenly changed and with 5 down and not too many on the board it looked like we would be finishing early to go and watch England in the World Cup (little did we know!). Michael Burke wasn't finished there though and next over saw him pick up another  wicket thanks to a catch from Kieran Chalmers. He was then backed up by a clean bowled on his own from Richard Jones.

However with 7 down New Milton B rallied a bit of a come back and despite his success Michael was  knocked around a bit as numbers 8 and 9 put on a good partnership. Still not satisfied Michael put an end to the partnership and claimed his sixth wicket with his third clean bowled finishing on 4 overs 6 wickets for 33 runs!   Other bowlers used were Marc Reid and 2 of our younger brigade Alex Nicholas (who also picked up yet another clean bowled for the team) and Ali Bryers who all bowled fairly tightly so that New Milton were always out of touching distance from our total. In the end they made 102 for 9 in reply leaving Hythe to take away the points and Michael Burke probably deserving to take away a stump but not sure New Milton would have felt quite so generous
