HYTHE UNDER 13's vs PYLEWELL PARK

15th July @ Hythe

Blandford & Bryers Ignore Gloomy Conditions To Set Up Hythe Win.

Elliott CARLEY 30*

Jordan BLANDFORD 20*Ali BRYERS 27*

An unbeaten partnership of 40 between Ali Byers and Jordan Blandford in darkening conditions steered Hythe to a six wicket win over Pylewell Park. Set 112 to win Eliott Carley got the Green Caps off to a perfect start with a retired not out 30

The rain started in the 16th over and the skies looked grey for a short time, would we finish ?? .In the 17th over Jordan had Lakey Caught and bowled for 5 runs. Elliot came on for the last over and the new batsmen Scriven took the score through 100 as he hit 3 fours and they took an extra off a no ball. Elliot took his wicket, clean bowled on the last ball of the innings to give us an extra fielding point. Good batting from Pylewell, Scriven 14 runs off 7 deliveries and Fitzgerald 26 not out. Probably the worst fielding from green caps this season. Ollie the only one making a great stop from a square shot and saving a definte four and his part in the run out.

The Green Caps had two decent scores to chase down, 61 by the 10th and if the rain held off, 112 to win. Fielding isn't our strength but we have quite a solid batting side all the way down the team, so this was a game we could win. Six an over - off we go. The opening bowler went for four off his 1st, a bye and 3 quick singles. Scriven had the 2nd over and clean bowled Alex off his second ball and then bowled Sam Long in the same over. 6 runs came between the 2 wickets but this was not looking good. 10 for 2 off 2. Harry came in as the No 4 to partner Elliot and steady the ship. The 3rd over contained a bye,run off a wide, a four and four byes - back on target, 22 off 3 overs. Scriven back on, then bowled Harrison ( 6 runs) and the score off 4 was 29 for 3. Target of 60 off 10 was looking good but we needed the rain after 10 overs the rate the wickets were falling. Ali joined Elliot at the crease , Elliot steadily building his score through some good shots and taking quick singles with clear decisive calling. Ahead of the rate at 44 off 6, 52 off 7.

Elliot having played well, then retired at 30 not out during the 8th over. Tom Copley joined Ali at the crease and the batsmen were told to forget the 60 aim and look after the wickets, the 61 would come off the 10. We passed through our first target with 61 runs off 9 overs. Loseby had bowled 3 overs and Scriven had had his 4 overs. Tom hit a boundary off his first ball but was bowled by Fitzgerald for 6 in the 11th over. Jordan in at No 7

Ali moved steadily on and was struggling with the light, Jordan who had hit his first ball for a boundary was batting himself in as usual. The two batsmen kept with the run rate, 12 runs off the 12th over put us ahead and we maintained the rate, 88 off 13, 96 off 14 103 off 15, 108 off 16. Ali hit the winning shot during the 17th over with his best innings of the season, 27 not out, one boundary in the innings showed that simple shots, clear calling can get us a good score. Jordan partnered Ali well and scored 20 not out with 3 fours.

Alex won the toss and decided to put Pylewell into bat as the rain looked certain to come and a known score from 10 overs was needed to have a target.  Tom Loseby opening batsmen for Pylewell stroked the 2nd ball for 4 and set the pace for the innings, his partner supported him,and so did our fielders as we let balls go under our legs, one handed stops, no long barriers set the scene. Tom eventually retired after hitting 5 boundaries and scoring 32 runs. This was in the 7th over with the score at 45 for 0, a steady flow of runs coming from every over. As from the previous match with Pylewell we now had the chance to take some of the lower order batsmen. The first wicket came when the No. 3 batsmen was run out, Ollie Pike picked the ball up well and threw straight to the keeper and Archie claimed the first man. This was in the 8th over score still on 45. The No2 and No4 had other ideas off staying at the crease. With the aid of 2 relatively simple dropped catches, they moved through the 10 overs at 60 runs, the run rate slowed down from here and Elliot had Cubitt, the No2 LBW in the 12th over. Cubitt out for 9 runs. Fitzgerald No4 was joined at the crease by Lakey. Fitzgerald dominated the strike and picked the run rate back up striking several boundaries on the way.

An overall pleasing performance , a high score to achieve from the conditions on the pitch. Well done lads.
