OTTERY ST.MARY vs HYTHE XI
ANYTHING FAWLEY CAN DO THE GREEN CAPS DO BETTER
Back into Devon for the final match of the tour - just outside Exeter to the lovely ground of Devon 'D' Division clubside Ottery St Mary.
With the tour numbers now down to a bare 11 the guys looked jaded but determined to finish the tour on a high - especially as Fawley had beaten Ottery the previous week on tour. Skipper for the final game - Tom Porter who won the toss and elected to bat first
Tibbles asked Simon Dixon and Mike Edwards to open but it wasn't Dixies day and he was bowled by Z.Johns for 2. Matt Howe looked set for a big score as he and Edwards added 73 for the 2nd wkt in just 12 overs. Howe was caught by Thurgate off Phillips for 37 with the score on 81. At drinks Hythe were 112 for 3 after Stark was bowled for 11. Two wickets then fell in the 120's - Tom Porter and Russell Moore both for 5. Edwards brought up his fifty with a boundary before falling with the score on 155 for 6. Ewan Bell 32 and Luke Mills 28 added 31 for the 7th wkt then de Jager hit a quick fire 17 before being bowled. Hythe finished on 237 all out in the last over - not bad for a side all tired and hung over.
Into the field and Porter opened with de Jager and Mills. de Jager dismissed Mansfield for 2 thanks to a good catch from Froggett. At drinks Ottery had struggled to 61 for 1 against some tight bowling from Chiverton and Mills. Edwards came on and with his first ball had Dean well caught by Chiverton one handed at gully for 39. Thurgate was then run out by the alert Bell and soon afterwards - Forbes was well stumped by Matt Howe off Edwards for 39. - Ottery 94 for 4 off 27. The 6ft 7 inch frame of Ottery captain R.Johns looked to be the one hope of the Devon side getting anywhwere near Hythe's total but after smashing 2 fours he holed out to de Jager off Moore for 11.
A.Clements supporting a Fawley shirt scored 31 not out and with Z.Johns and added 46 but it was a case of seeing out the overs and Ottery had finished on 157 for 6 - Hythe had won by 80 runs but a pleasure to play at such a nice venue..
