HYTHE PUT ON A SHOW AT OAK PARK

By Web - July 15 2010
Day 3 of the Devon Tour saw the Green Caps return to Oak Park - home of Cornwood. The lovely setting with their new clubhouse and workaholic groundsman saw Hythe delegate Fonzy as skipper for the day and he elecetd to bat first. Hythe started well with Mike Graham blasting 43 in the first 7 overs. But the middle order struggled to leave Hythe 113 for 6 before Tom Porter 53 & Matt Howe 50n added 102 for the 7th wicket. Hythe finishing on 256 for 8 - or thats what Starkey thinks (Though he's never scored before and was left on his own) Cornwood in reply scored 206 all out.

HOWE & PORTER PARTNERSHIP SETS UP HYTHE WIN

 Starkey @ Cornwood

Tuesday with weather conditions very good - Hythe returned to the lovely setting of Oak Park to face Devon 'A' clubside Cornwood. The homeside welcomed back their club captain J.Hall from a ankle injury which was supposed to keep him out for a whole season.

Hythe's captain for the day - 'The Fonz' Richard Last who won the toss and elected to bat first. Hythe opened with Mike 'magnum' Graham (supporting a hangover) and and Kev James. Magnum went all guns blazing from the start and 43 was added in just 7 overs. James went in the 8th over for 9 the first of 3 quick wickets for O'Hare as Hythe were soon 62 for 3. At drinks Hythe had moved onto 96 for 4 - Graham out for 48 which soon became 113 for 6 as the late nights caught up with the Hythe batsman. Thankfully a 7th wkt partnership of 102 between Matt Howe 50 and Tom Porter 53 took Hythe to 213 and a late flurry from Richard Last 23* took the final score to 256 for 8 - though it could be anything with Starkey being left in the scorbox on hs own..

Hythe took to the field with de Jager and Si Dixon given the job of opening the bowling. 41 was added before Dixon removed Cornwoods club captain for 12 - caught by Edwards. S.Mansfield soon followed - bowled by de Jager 24. Edwards then had Butterworth caught by Kev James for 2 - Cornwood 45 for 3.

69 for 3 at drinks - 60 was then added for the 4th wkt before Moore bowled Butterworth for 25. Mills after his first ball duck came on to break the middle order. First he removed Webster bowled for 20 and then had Dart superbly caught by Kev James for 38. Cranch was caught by Howe off Mills for 22 and the tail folded to Matt Stark - Cornwood all out for 206 - Hythe win by 50 runs

Immeadiately after the game the groundman was out there with his hose as committed as ever. Another great day at Cornwood
