250 RUNS NOT ENOUGH - AS BOWLERS WILT IN THE HEAT

Sean TONGS 70

An Excellent 104* from Hooks G.Buckingham dented Hythe's hopes of a win after the Green Caps had batted first and scored 252 for 7. In a high scoring game the home side got home with 4 wickets and 5 overs to spare.

Earlier Sean Tongs (70) and Adriaan de Jager (56 inc 10x4's & 2x6's) added 88 for the 3rd wicket plus a late 46 not out from Ben Kendrick took Hythe to their highest score of the season. Kendrick's innings included 4x4's & 2x6's.

Hythe won the toss and elected to bat first on the httest day of the year so far. Robbie James and skipper Matt Howe gave Hythe a solid start with 31 off the first 8 overs before Howe was caught for 17. James and Sean Tongs then added 60 in 12 overs before James was out bowled by Batchelor just before drinks. Hythe 91 for 1 at the half way stage.

A third wicket partnership of 88 in 13 overs between Tongs and Adriaan de Jager upped the pace for the Green Caps. de Jager scored a quick fire 56 inc 10x4's & 2x6's before being caught behind off Dovey Kev Jamesd was out cheaply for 5 but Hythe passed the 200 mark with Ben Kendrick (making a welcome return) looking in good nick. At 214 Hythe lost 2 quick wickets Tongs stumped off Dovey for a very good 70 and Tom Porter 1. Hythe 216 for 6 off 42 and Kendrick let loose. He finished on 46 not out inc 4x4's & 2x6's. Hythe 252 for 7 at the close.

Hythe took to the field with confidence but an opening partnership of 94 in 18 overs set the foundation of a Hook fightback. Saunders bowled Hall for 46 and at the half way stage the homeside were 120 for 1 with Buckingham going well. The second wicket was worth 103 when at 201 Hook lost their second wicket when Allnutt was bowled by de Jager for 36. Matt Howe tried 6 bowlers trying to find a breakthrough but the green caps had to wait till the score was on 245 for the 3rd wicket - Lovelock caught off Saunders for 20. Buckingham reached his century before holing out off Saunders for 104.

Hook reached their target with 5.3 overs remaining - Rob Saunders finishing with 3-54.
