Under 13’s See Off Eight Man Bashley

Alex NICHOLAS 30 Not Out

Bashley B arrived with a depleted team, 3 of their players snatched by the A team and with as many U11's as they could muster they arrived at the ground with 8 players - Their coach decided it would be better for us to bat first to have a decent game.

Alex Nicholas and Sam Long opened the batting with the aim of getting quick runs to allow the lower order into bat. Both got off to a resonable start taking 22 runs off the openers 4 overs. With only 8 fielding players we gave them 2 green caps to cover the field and they both duly stopped some boundaries going over - (Archie and Elliot for those who wish to take it out on them). The bowlers didn't trouble any of the batsmen and Alex retired on 30 not out hitting his 4th boundary of the innings. Sam Long followed Alex in the next over having been caught at Mid wicket for 23 runs. Ollie Pike had come in to replace Alex as the newly promoted No 3 and hit 5 off his first scoring run with the aid of 4 over throws. Ali Bryers replaced Sam Long and between Ollie and Ali they kept the runs ticking over and we reached maximum batting points of 95 runs in the 16th over. Ali hit some good boundaries , the bowler then bounced one into Alis's ribs so he thumped the next delivery for four at square for his 3rd boundary. Ollie hit his first boundary in the 16th over and we finished the innings on 108 for 1 off ther 18 overs. Both batsmen on 21 not out..

With a good score and only 7 wickets to take all the non batters had a bowl, Elliot took a wicket in his first over having the No2 caught by Sam Kelly. Sam Kelly took the next over and clean bowled the opener. Too keep the momentum going Ben Fenton bowled the 3rd over and clean bowled the No3. Jordan took the 4th over and didn't take a wicket. J Brierley of Bashley had come in with a aptly named bat he called 'Belinda' for some unknown reason. He kept the fielders entertained with his chat and even appealed himself when the bowlers claimed for an LBW that wasn't given- he could swear he was out. Brielrey and O Brien kept at the crease for another 6 overs seeing off the first overs of Matt Bennet and Billy Allan and the 2nd overs of Elliot Carley, Sam Kelly and Ben Fenton..

The score 33 for 3 off 9 overs at this stage. Jordan came on for his 2nd over in the 10th and duly made up for missed wicket in the first over and clean bowled the No 4 and No 6. Matt Bennett bowled the 11th over and didn't manage to take a wicket. Billy Allan claimed his 1st wicket in the 12 th over by clean bowling Brierley and Belinda for 25, Bashleys highest scorer.Sam Long tried spin to the 3ft 6" No 7 and when he top edged it, Elliot Carley caught it and finished Bashleys brave attempt at 45 for 7 all out off 12.1 overs..

Maximum points for the Green Caps which should see us move into 4th in the table. Well done lads on another all round performance.
