CADNAM vs HYTHE SUNDAY XI
Win In The Sunshine Eases England Loss
The beautiful setting of Cadnam proved a much better place to be than in front of the tele as Hythe beat Cadnam by 6 wickets on Sunday. The Green Caps reduced the home side to 194 for 6 (Cadnam groundsman saying 30 short of what was required) before Hythe got home with 6 wkts to spare. Addie de Jager scored 46, Matt Young 41 not out.

While many people around the country were wasting their time watching England crash out of yet another big tournament to the Germans, Hythe and Dibden travelled to Cadnam to play in an entertaining friendly that the Green Caps won by six wickets.
After both sides had their initial opposition cry off for unwarranted national belief, the friendly was quickly arranged and held in Cadnam.
The hosts won the toss and chose to bat on another hot summer’s day. Hythe began well and pressured the hosts as both openers Russell Moore and Richard Last picked up a wicket. Unfortunately, for Hythe the Cadnam number three, Hardy, was given a lifeline after a missed chance and he went on to score 55 as Hythe toiled in the field.
After Captain Paul Quinnell picked up a wicket the spin pairing of Harry Smith and Adriaan De Jager bowled through the middle overs. Smith bowled without luck before eventually picking up his only wicket while De Jager picked up two in a tight eight over spell.
At 133-6 the hosts were short of setting a good total but late hitting, especially against Richard Last saw them accelerate to their eventual total of 194-6.
Hythe’s reply began positively with Sam Mead smashing the ball around the field. Ably supported by Sean Tongs, Mead would hit two sixes and six fours (running just two singles) in his 38 before he was unlucky to edge behind with the score 62-1.
Paul Quinnell then came and went for a duck while Sean Tongs was unfortunately dismissed when a ball down the leg side hit the ‘keeper’s pads and rebounded onto the stumps for an extraordinary stumping.
Overseas star Adriaan De Jager then took up the mantle and after surviving a dropped catch struck the ball confidently to the boundary. He seemed to be cruising towards a fifty but a mix up with Matt Young saw him run out for 46.
Young then atoned for his part in the run out by picking up the pace and ensuring Hythe closed in on their total. The visitors were ahead of the run rate throughout their innings and eventually sealed the win with three overs to spare.
Young struck two sixes in his unbeaten 41 while Tom Porter added 11 to help guide the side to a six wicket win.
