HYTHE 2ND XI vs SUTTONERS
MOORE STRIKES 7 WTS AS 2ND XI GO 3RD WITH RECORD WIN

Russell MOORE 7-27
Hythe and Dibden Second XI recorded their biggest ever league victory thanks to fifties from Wayne Effeny and Sean Tongs and a seven wicket haul from Russell Moore.
The visitors Suttoners were only able to field nine players and Hythe took full advantage by racking up 288 runs with Effeny 81 and Tongs 79 being the mainstays of the innings. When Hythe took to the field it took only 16.1 overs to skittle the nine batsmen as Moore recorded career best figures of 7-27.
At a slightly chilly Jones’ Lane Hythe won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Sean Tongs and Matt Young started well as they picked the gaps in the nine-man field. Unfortunately for Hythe, Young was stumped for 22 just as the Green Caps were looking to push on.
Wayne Effeny came to the crease to join Tongs in the hope that he could recapture his form after disappointment at Brockenhurst last week. The pair would set the tone for the Hythe batsmen as first Tongs, and then Effeny got into their stride.
After reaching his half-century, Tongs accelerated through to 79 before he was caught at point trying to up the run rate. Captain Mike Bowman joined Effeny at the crease and the latter began to find his touch again with some imperious strokes.
Once Bowman was finally caught on the boundary for 30 the score was already challenging 200 but a small collapse slowed the pace. In quick succession, Effeny, Luke Mills and Gary Howe were dismissed as the Green caps pushed for 250.
In the end a positive 29 not out from Harry Smith accompanied by Ian Prentice saw the hosts finish on a season high of 288-6.
In reply, Suttoners began positively with 8 runs coming of Russell Moore’s first over. The score would move on to 23 before the first wicket fell as, after a couple of dropped catches, Moore finally struck when an edge was parried by Effeny into the hands of Prentice at slip.
Another similar dismissal followed before Ian White picked up a wicket at the other end when he had the opener caught by Lee Powell. After that, the final five wickets fell at a rate of knots with Moore doing all the damage and in the process recording his first league five wicket haul.
Three batsmen were clean bowled and two more caught by Hythe fielders as the visitors lost all their eight wickets for 22 runs. Moore had a devastating spell of seven wickets for five runs and the final five wickets coming in just 11 deliveries.
The 243 run win is the biggest in Hythe league history and confirms the clubs promotion credentials this season. The maximum points win putting them in sight of the leading pack.
