Northy Sets Up Good Win
Hythe entertained touring side Aston University on Tuesday in a friendly encounter that the Green Caps won by four wickets thanks to an 81 run partnership between Tony North, who made 63, and Mike Edwards, who made 39.

The touring side made up of students from their University in the midlands arrived at Jones’ Lane early and showed great enthusiasm in warming up thoroughly, something the Hythe players have stricken from their pre-match routine.
Without a toss it was decided Aston would bat first on a very hot summer day. Hythe rotated their bowlers in three over spells and the 11 outfielders all got a bowl, only ‘keeper Tony North did not.
All the Hythe bowlers performed well with Kev McCarthy, Harry Smith and Sean Tongs taking two wickets apiece while Russell Moore, Matt Young and Paul Quinnell also struck for the hosts. A good knock of 42 from Shah helped Aston to 163 all out and a competitive total.
In reply, Hythe started badly as Paul Quinnell was dismissed for a second ball duck but a partnership of 81 between the experience of Tony North and Mike Edwards saw the Green Caps halfway to their total.
North went on to record the only fifty of the game before Hythe stuttered towards the finish line. Once Edwards departed, Andy Woods and Matt Young soon came and went before North was finally dismissed for a fine 63.
Fawley player Steve Rollinson hit 18 including a six but with his wicket and a golden duck for Sean Tongs Hythe were down to batsmen nine out of twelve.
Fortunately Gareth Mead struck the winning runs as the hosts helped themselves to a four wicket win.
The atmosphere was great before, during and after the game and all the Hythe lads wished Aston good luck with the rest of their tour. A single stump shootout at the end was finally decided on the fourth round of bowls when Harry Smith and Gareth Mead both struck to hand Hythe victory and Aston the bill for the two jugs that were wagered.
