HYTHE XI vs ASTON CC (Oxfordshire)
Friday 11th June
Twenty20 Season Begins With A Comfortable Win
Tony NORTH 32*
Hythe’s Twenty20 season kicked off with a Friday night game against Oxford touring side - Aston Cricket Club. Hythe bowled the tourists out for 104 and won with 4 wkts and 15 balls spare.
Aston got their own back winning the 'hit the wicket' competition 1-0 as Hythe's first teamers failed to hit the stump between them and cost the club £20.
Aston won the toss and elected to bat first. Hythe were captained by Rob Saunders.
Hythe struck first in the second over when Kev McCarthy had R.O'Brien caught for 6. Next over Jonjo Stovell bowled M.Herring for 6 - Aston 13 for 2. Tom Richards came on to bowl K.Muserne for 3 and soon after G.Ross was caught off Mike Graham. Astons middle order all got into double figures - just but a score of 104 was never really going to be enough.
Hythe got off to a good start through Tony North (32 retired not out) and Mike Graham (10). Graham and Chalky White went in successive balls but Richie Froggett (16) and Luke Mills (13) took the score upto 74 before both fell in quick succession. Matt Young fell for 2 and the green caps were wobbling at 79 for 5. Matt Howe 10* and Tom Richards 14* however saw Hythe home with 15 balls spare.
With two jugs of beer the prize (bought by the losers) there was plenty to play for as the teams challenged to hit the wicket competition. No surprises as Corporal Saunders selected the first teamers to bowl in a 5 a side competition. Sadly though Aston won 1-0 and £20 went down the drain. But well deserved by the visitors.
