TOTTON & ELING vs HYTHE UNDER 11's
Under 11's Go Close Against League Leaders Totton & Eling

Jacob MOULD - 12
H&D youngest green caps fell to another close defeat to joint league table leaders Totton & Eling at their U11s home ground of Bartley Cricket Club. Hythe put into bat first scored 227 for 8 with Jacob Mould top scoring with 12. Totton & Eling in reply scored 240 for 5.
Skipper Neal Reid lost the toss and Totton put Hythe into bat. First pairing Neal Reid (2) and Thomas Ladbury (4) achieved a boundary a piece but a wicket each. Runs seemed hard to come by for second pair Lewie Fay (4) and Tom Knight-Owen (-3) and with another wicket lost the partnership added net of one run to the total. Jacob Mould (12) top scored with a total of three boundaries and the youngest member of the team Sam Fenton (-3) added his first two singles in a league match. The final pair Pieter Lever (-8) and Freddie Molyneux (3) looked to up the score board with 18 added in their first two overs before Freddie painfully defended his wicket with his thigh and the wickets began to fall with two clean bowled, a caught and bowled and run out in the final two overs. A final score of 227-8 looked hard to defend.
Totton & Eling’s first partnership added 18 to the score board with a series of boundaries from district player Callum Dunham that was kept down by the first of two clean bowled by Tom Knight Owen (2-7). The second partnership left the field having reduced Totton’s score board by three runs following a wicket maiden by Lewie Fay (1-8) and another lost wicket clean bowled by Tom Ladbury ((1-6) and low scoring overs from Pieter Lever (0-5) and Neal Ried (0-11).
Hythe’s total of 227 was starting to look defendable! The third pairing added only 8 runs to the board following young Sam Fenton’s (0-16) one run over and the stumps falling again in the hands of Tom Knight-Owen. With Totton needing 5 runs to win from the last partnership things could have gone either way. Neal Reid took the only catch of the innings from Jacob Mould’s (1-11) bowling but with another district player Sam Woodcock achieving a couple of boundaries and Hythe taking no more wickets we were pipped at the post by 13 runs.
Overall the boys put in a strong performance against table leaders Totton & Eling and their bowling was noticeable improved from earlier games, and, indeed, commended by Totton’s coach. Next week we face the other joint league leaders Paultons, at home in the last league match of the 2010 season.
