UNDER 17's SUNK IN 12 OVERS @ FERNHILLS

By Web - June 8 2010
The unpredictable bowling of Hythe Under 17's was put to the sword on Thursday evening as New Milton chased down 118 in just 12 overs. Hythe batted first scoring 116 for 2 with Tom Richards 50* and Matt Young 34*. In reply New Milton made 122 for 1 with Jonjo Stovell getting the only wicket to fall. Harry Smith was Hythe's best bowler 0-39 off 4 but why wasn't last weeks hat-trick hero 'The Huxter' used.

HYTHE UNDER 17's @ NEW MILTON

Why Wasn't Hat-Trick Hero Hux Used As Bowlers Let Down Batsman

Tom RICHARDS 50*

The Unpredictable Under 17's were well beaten by 9 wickets at Fernhill on Thursday evening against New Milton. Hythe's total of 116 for 2 looked respectable with Tom Richards leading from the front 50* well supported by Matt Young 34*. Unfortunately the Hythe bowlers then bowled a load of tripe and New Milton got home by 9 wickets with 6 overs to spare. The question must be asked - why didn't hat-trick hero Tom Huxley bowl and why do the same players do everything. No wonder we can't field 11 players.

Skippers Report:

On a sunny lovely sunny evening, Richie’s men made their way over to New Milton to face a generally strong side. Richie won the toss and put his boys into bat looking to set a strong total to defend with the fading light.

Both Smith and Stovell opened the batting for Hythe, but unfortunately Smith received a beauty from the impressive opener T Clark, bowled for 0. Stovell then hit a lovely 4 off his legs and a few singles before being caught behind for 9 off Clark again who was proving to be the sting in the tail. This brought Skipper Richards into the crease in the 3rd over to join Matt Young. After facing off the impressive Clark with him still having an over left until the end, Richards started to target the 1st change bowlers and with Matty continuously rotating the strike back to Richards they were at a good run rate. Coming into the second half of the innings, Richards started to swing whilst Matt was rotating strike and it prevailed as runs were coming quickly even when the pace was taken off the ball. The innings then ended on 116-2 with Richards getting a 4 off the last ball to get his colts maiden 50*. Matt Young 34* played another vital part in the innings rotating the strike and keeping things together.

A motivated Hythe then taken to the field to attempt to defend the 116-2. Richards opened the bowling with Todd Powell and the batsmen A Case particularly got off to a flyer. He got his 50* inside 8 over’s and looked to of given New Milton the cutting edge in the chase. 1st change bowlers were Stovell and Smith who also got hit for more than they deserved. Wild swinging across the line to straight balls was frustrating the bowlers and couldn’t do much about it with the score getting closer and closer to the target. They eventually brought up the total with a 4 to cap off a impressive batting display from a strong side finishing on 119-1 with Stovell claiming the only wicket.

The boys gave it their all though and put in a strong performance and were motivating throughout. New Milton will certainly be one of the top runners in the league and it was good to see the side stand up to it. Bring on Milford next week at Jones Lane
